Which would be better?

The parangatang weighs in at 1.3 lbs, whereas the BK21 weighs in at 1.4 lbs. At just 1.6 oz. difference, I think I'll still "shoot" for the BK21. The handle/grip of the BK21 is more to my liking, as well as the elegant lines of the Becker blade. Too, as silly as it sounds, a black sheath is more to my liking, as in all probability, use of the BK21 will take place during the hours of darkness. I'm wondering too, how to dye the Micarta pannels black, rather than let them stay tan in color... Rite dye? Followed by linseed oil? If so, can do...
Thanks, Everyone!

yay for loving khukris...

but i don't think i'd suggest one, even the Becker, for self-defence purposes other than "shock and awe"...

in MO, is it going to be that dangerous? has the facility ever had an incident?

perhaps a can of bear spray, and a sword cane? might not be illegal INSIDE your facility, and "rules are rules"...

ideally, small easy to retain pointy things that you always have one you, would be a best first only start?

Hi, Bladite!
I've had kukri's for over twenty-five years. Not aware that Mr. Becker had designed, and perfected them until this year. I prefer the kukri to the Bowie for self defense, as well as any other blades, outside of my D2 Extremes (3). I'll probably be able to get one or two Reinhardt/Becker kukri's within the next two months. Would be sooner, but cost of my meds just went up, so I'll have to be more parsimonious... I've always believed that two blades, like two pistols, are better than just one, of either. Properly wielded, the kukri meets my needs- just like my Ka-Bar D2 Extremes.

Hello, again, Bladite,

I'm A-OK in the assisted living facility I dwell in. Shucks, I, and my Work Sharp gear, sharpen folks' knives, especially other veterans, for free. It gives me something meaningful to do. Likewise, for "small and pointy," I have my EK44 and my D2 Extremes to keep me company. I want something available when common wisdom goes out the hatch, and the unthinkable becomes all too real. If things get "too real," I'll go live somewhere else, and go back to packin' heavy, walkin' light. I am concerned that our front door has that damned decal proclaiming the place to be "firearm free." So, I'll do my best to avail myself of what becomes messily available, if, and when, the time comes. That it will come, I've little doubt, the way the world seems to be heading. Since women and children probably read our forum, I'll not write what I really think of the emasculation of America...

Best Luck to All Here...

I bit the "bullet" and ordered my BK21, and micarta grip panels, yesterday. Should have them Tuesday, weather and Amazon permitting. Will order a top quality sheath from Diez Knives next month.

Early this morning, I read, courtesy of SCRIBD, Martina Sprague's wonderful book,
Kukris and Gurkhas: Nepalese Kukri Combat Knives and the Men Who Wield Them (Knives, Swords, and Bayonets: A World History of Edged Weapon Warfare.)

It's a great "read," worthy of putting sleep off... The history of the Gurkhas, as well as their Kukris, is truly amazing. Most enjoyable. Book is also available from Amazon:

Mod edit: No deal spotting please.

Reading this, as well as other sources, especially Blade Forums, only reinforces my love for the type of blade, in addition to my Ka-Bars, Beckers, and EKS- ALL superb edged works of functional art. It reminded me of why I left Bowie knives, as well as other large blades, far behind me...

Best of All to All Here...

Just ordered a sheath from Mr. Diez, of Diez Knives. OUTSTANDING SERVICE!!! It will have the ability for strong side/belt loop or dangler carry, modified scout carry, or baldric carry. Talk about multi-tasking! Options Are ALWAYS GOOD! Really excited about his work. The size, length, plan form/design of Mr. Becker's superb BK21 makes for all sorts of possible uses. Like Dowsing, the only limits are what one imposes upon oneself...

P.S. Had already ordered the Micarta panels, which arrived today, and just ordered the VZ grip panels as well. Options are GREAT!

All The Best!!!
