Which would you get?

have to say I disagree, cutting up clothing/flesh is very easy on a knife compared to say cutting wood/heavy cardboard/thick plastics/tires and some of the other things my endura has easily handled with zero flex.

Yes......doesn't the Endura and Delica have steel liners that would help prevent flex of the FRN material?

The psychological impact of the user of a knife in a self defence situation can have long term consequences. You would probably be better off carrying a non lethal weapon such as a stun gun or pepper spray. At least book yourself into one of the specialised courses that are available that explain the legality of use of deadly force and how to prepare psychologically. After that there are several field downloadable manuals on hand to hand combat that recommend blade lengths and profiles ect. But lets face it even a pencil in the right hands is a highly effective self deffence weapon.

Bones complicate things.

sure if your definition of self defense includes dismemberment or decapitation, but the truth is a knife is a last ditch weapon and would be used to slash or stab. that type of contact with bone would not threaten the integrity of FRN. Its not like you're trying to baton your way through their femur or pry something apart. a quality FRN handle like spyderco's is very strong and more than adequate for self defense.

edit: I'm not saying there aren't better handle materials and better knives available, Personally I prefer G10 with stainless liners, but at the OP's price point the FRN endura 4 is tough as nails, lightweight, and grippy. I've beat the hell out of mine, used it to cut an old tire off of a rim, trim branches off of bushes, split kindling for fires and even saw through 0-AWG battery cable in an emergency. it has never noticeably flexed on me, but again - the endura has steel liners not just FRN. My linerless FRN handled spydercos do exhibit some flex under heavy use, but never more than a few millimeters, and not nearly enough to cause any kind of failure.

Stabbing would hit a bone in just about any region, definitely in the torso. The ribcage is a great piece of armor.
