Be sure to check out Mclendon's Rare Woods if you have time. Its a mom and pop place. Carlton Mclendon started it after WWII. He passed not long ago. But the business carries on. They've got woods there that have been sitting around since 1940.

I go every few months, and have to be ushered out the door. They literally have it ALL.

Oh yea, I'm not affiliated, just thought since you were coming anyway you should check it out.

Did I do wrong posting this here? If so, feel free to delete it.

Seems to me like the right place to post it, these are the guys who would likely be interested. You should also post in Good/Bad/Ugly if you've had experience with them. Over there, it's tons of simliar posts, like "this guy gave me a fair deal and was honest/prompt/good service" etc. It's not considered spam, just a heads-up for other folks who might be interested. Mostly knife dealers, but I don't see why a supplier link wouldn't be cool, too. IIRC folks have posted about steel dealers there, for instance.

P.S. I could be wrong about whether this is appropriate for this forum, please don't quote me on it ;) Seems reasonable to me, though. If you were "wrong" to post it in here, CougarAllen or another mod will just move it to the proper forum. They're pretty mellow about that as long as it's not an obvious spam/BS link. Speaking only for myself, I'm always interested in mom-and-pop places that sell high-quality materials, so I thank you. I'd rather buy from a person than a corporation.

I'd say you did anyone who's going to Blade a favor by sharing your knowledge of the ATL area!

That was my intent. If you do wood handles, why not skip shipping and get the personal service and knowledge. I bought a piece of cocobolo that was over 67 years old. When you get wood like that, you know its good n dry.

I'm sure there's a good story to this! :)

Well, its two guys that run the place now. They've got to service everyone who comes through the door. (Not a lot of traffic admitedly.) Anyway, when I go in I dominate their time with question after question, and eventually, just have to purchase what I've found and get out of their way. Its the kinda place you could stay in for days and never get bored. I've never known of a better stocked (with old properly dry wood) store.

I bought some beautiful amboyna burl there for a good price. They also threw in a piece of cocobolo just for kicks.

I used the amboyna on this knife.

Whoa, I need to get there BEFORE the show so I can have a selection to choose from!!

WOW.....I am a bit overwhelmed by the list of woods. If they actually have any Dade Country Slash Pine, then they may very well have had it sitting around since the 40's or 50's:eek:
