Whine! --- so I ordered a new knife and...

You really like teasing people don't you ? :D

Congrats on the new knife. Can't wait to actually see what it looks like, because I have never really been a fan of Tanto blades, but I trust your experience and insight on blades, so maybe that will change my perception...

BTW, does it get easier after the first one ? My finger still starts twitching when I am close to pushing the "Buy" buttton on my first one :D

Man am I sorry! I really dont like teasing.

Mike, I typically do not care for tantos either. I have had many in my hands over the past couple years (Striders most notably). This is very different in my opinion. It is highly refined and I really view it more as two blades on one knife. It is like a nice modified Wharncliffe with a sharp swedge...but the swedge is on the blade side instead of the spine. I wish you were in my area sometime soon, I'd like to get this into your hands and see if it changes your thinking any.

blah blah blah...on with the pictures...

In this next photo, you might be able to pick up on the apparently smaller profile of the tanto...its really about the same height, but it looks (to my eye) quite a bit smaller...perhaps it is the lighter color blade?

Something else that is different about this (as compared to say a Strider or other typical tanto blade), is both edges have bellies. The curvature of the edges (I think) gives it a bit more of an ogranic feel and this causes the transition between edges to seem muted (it is still a crisp angle but the curved edges make it seem a little less "pointy" and "edgy"). I could be FOS, but it really seems more gentlemanly than tactical...you tell me.

As for hitting the button...I am not sure. The DT was ordered by phone, and I recall fondly ordering it while driving back from lunch to my new job...it was a good day (bad weather, but a good day). This one, I just hit the button...it was easy because 90% of the money came from returned christmas. I ALMOST ordered another one about 30 minutes after I clicked buy on this one...a hot deal came up on the exchange on the model that will be my next CRK purchase. It was almost too good to pass up...almost;)

I was just kidding about the teasing Ken :D

I like that. A LOT... It does look different than other Tanto designs I have seen. I do see the belly in the blade, and the curvature going from the edge to the spine. Yours doesn't look like the designer intended for the user to go out and stab car doors, and out of control washing machines :D
I think your description of it being more gentlemanly is perfect. I like that you got matching inlays too. Very cool.
Thanks for the great pictures.

Actually, while posting thos photos (taken with my phone) I came to understand that they are really quite crappy. I intend to upload some all new crappy photos taken with the neat new camera I got my wife for Christmas...it removes ANY and ALL excuses for the bad photography that still results for me;)

I need one of those. My wife has a very nice 35mm, and I tried taking pictures with it. I went back to my phone camera :D
The camera she has is very highly rated, but you someone with an I.Q slightly higher than a truck driver to be operating it.

The micarta tanto looks really good, Ken. It looks especially nice next to the micarta DT. I'm excited to see your thoughts on this knife as you use it, and if it will be one that you rotate the other with frequently. Nice photos too. Enjoy and congrats on an excellent piece.

So, I took a few more photos...

I wanted to try and show that the blade in the tanto rides a bit higher in the handle when closed. I like this for a few reasons. Anyway, this appears to be the result of the contact at the stop pin (analogous to the kick on a traditional I suppose)

And here is an image of the blades after they have been wiped down a bit;)

I couldn't agree more with your opinion of the Reeve tanto blade, it's perfection.
Unfortunately I sold all my Tanto's except the Umnum that I carry.
The small Tanto just "seemed" too small after carrying the Umnum for so many years but the large is just right. After my buddy brought one over to show me last week and your pics I'm close to buying another.
- you're a bad influence - thanks you :)
