Whistle Pig - last production V1
grind: convex
blade: 4″, Version 1 with round butt
overall length: 8″
steel: 1/8″ 80CrV2 @ 61 Hc
handle: Blast finish OD micarta over Orange G10.
handle thickness: 4-4.5/5
hardware: Orange G10 triple pin and stainless tube.
Sheath not included.
First produced in 2017, the Whistle Pig is my lonest running production design. The longstanding success of this knife is thanks to full-size competence packed into a minimized package and ergonomics that allow the handle to melt into your hand. It’s been called “the little big knife” for just this reason. Make no mistake, this little piggie is a fistful of can-do attitude.
So, if you are looking for the perfect, compact companion to your next fireside gathering or outdoor adventure, give this stout blade a whistle.
I began making PL knives in 2016. I've done leather work for over 20. I added kydex to my repertoire in the last few years. The heat treat on all of my carbon steel knives is done by me in a thermostatically controlled Evenheat knifemaking kiln. Each 80CrV2 blade goes through a 3 stage normalization before being heated to austenitic temperature and quenched in Parks 50 oil. Then it goes through a 2 stage tempering process. 80CrV2 Hardness is approx. 61 hc and my heat treat process produces a blade with extreme toughness and fine edge sharpenability. Scales are glued with West Systems G-flex epoxy. My aim is to produce heirloom quality tools with excellent craftsmanship that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment and service.
