White Box Stove?

I do not have the original, but I make them. If you wish, I'll send you one to compare to the White Box Stove. My latest version uses a wick, making priming very simple. I prefer to simply use a priming pan since the wick adds weight. You need to be using a pot with a 5 inch dia minimum, also wind screen. I really like these stoves, no support required and boils 16 oz, of H2O in under 5 minutes. Two oz. fuel will yield about 10 minutes of cook time.

Sounds and looks like a nice little stove, IUKE12. I'm still using a small, heavy brass alcohol stove with one of my ultra-lite packs. I seriously need to change that concept soon.

Excellent little alky stove. Here's mine last winter matched with an MSR Titan kettle. Plenty of heat and good burntime:

And last spring:

I have a White Box stove. It's a great stove, but it works better with wider pots than in does with cups/mugs.

I have a white box stove and it is very well made. Much thicker aluminum than the pepsi can stoves. I think they are made from aluminum beer bottles. It is a little smaller in diameter than the pepsi can stove that I bought off an ebay store. The pepsi can stove was called the "rivet" model as it had a rivet to keep you from pulling the halves apart. It also was a side burner like the white box stove. Comparing the two the "rivet" put out more heat so boiled water faster. The instructions for the white box stove said not to fill beyond the point where the inner neck flares out. Following the instructions I could not get it to burn close to the advertised 20 minutes. It burns longer if you dump a lot of extra fuel in the outside aluminum tray so it does not use so much inside fuel to heat it up. In my view the pepsi can stove works better but is a little delicate. The white box stove is a work of art and very sturdy, but still works okay.

I replaced my pop can stove with one. Great stove, well designed and sturdy. Who cares if it weighs a few grams more. They now have a new model without rivets.

Thanks for all the feedback y'all:thumbup:

Most of my pots are 5" or more.

The thing that appealed to me about the White Box was it says it will boil larger amounts.

I have to remove the pot and re fill to boil 2 quarts on my pepsi can stove and boiling 2 quarts with the Ion would take forever.

HD, that looks like a good pot to use with the White Box Stove. Also, your tea kettle would work great, I've seen that in other pics. If you fill the stove with 2 oz. of fuel, prime the base with a splash or two of fuel, and place your pot on the stove before lighting, you won't waste any of the loaded fuel to prime the stove. This will maximize the output of the WBS.

I made a popcan stove out of two Fosters beer cans. Theyre at least a third bigger than a regular can. The beer wasnt bad either!--KV:)

I have never had the need to get more than 16 oz of water to a rolling boil, I noticed that hollowdweller is attempting to boil 2 qts of water. I ran a boil test today, admittedly under ideal conditions, outdoors with windscreen, 2 oz of Heet for fuel, run time was just over 16 minutes. I used 1 qt [32 oz] of water in a covered s/s cook pot. I had a rolling boil in just over 7 minutes:)

Not attempted. I've done it with a pepsi can stove(not the side burner kind) with 2 fillings. I'm thinking it took about 15 to 20 min for 2 quarts. I hike with some heavy coffee drinkers and we had 4 on that trip.

My little ion stove will boil the flat Primus tea kettle in 12 to 15 minutes.

But I'm at a loss on how much alcohol. What are you using to measure 2oz out??

I really don't need to measure, but a 35mm film can filled to the rim is 1 oz. On the white box stove, 1 oz is half way up the neck, so once you know just where 1 oz falls....well, you get the idea.

Hey I got my White Box Stove and also one Iuke12 sent me.

I haven't used the White Box yet but I have used Iuke's to boil water and last night I popped popcorn with it;)

Filling it up with 2 oz I can get 1.8 quarts just to a boil (cold water) before the stove plays out. It only takes about an ounce of alcohol to cook a 2 quart container full of popcorn (ie 3 tablespoons oil and 3 tablespoons popcorn)

This is just using it in my kitchen. Next weekend I'm going back packing for 4 days so I'll bring both and use the hell out of them and report back.

Very nice HD:thumbup: Love the popcorn idea, here I am just using it to boil water or heat up a trail meal:o
