That is an awsome picture! What's the story behind the photo--did he/his trail cam take the pic? Are the elk in the wild?

My brother did not take this. The elk are in the wild. These Bulls were supposed to be spotted in Logan Canyon, Utah. But, I am reminded of a story I read by Peter Chapstick a African White Hunter later game control officer who has some fantastic books BTW, about a guy who always hunted hard and had killed many trophies. The guy always wanted a huge bull elephant. Finally after years of effort he found a remaining bull with huge tusks. He removed the shell from his chamber, took aim and pulled the trigger on the empty chamber and turned and walked away. It isn't the kill its the hunt. I grew up in Montana and had the pleasure of hunting a wide variety of game. I have shot flocks of birds, some great mule deer and white tail, pronghorn antelope and several bull elk. One day when my brothers and I were in a week long deer camp and having a great time, I was out and saw a couple fine muley bucks running up a hill and nailed the largest. A great rack and running shot. But, as I walked up and saw him laying dead, there was no thrill, actually I was a bit sad. I never before thought I would understand that. I understand and believe in hunting. There is a lot of great things about it. I haven't shot anything sense. I did take my sons hunting for years after. But, some times its better to just let it run away.

That is pretty cool! They look like perfect targets, something an oldman could spot. I hope they stay home at night.

Not 10 fee tfrom where I work in my little shop a big four point mulie lays under my crab apple tree. He does not even get up when I gotta go indside to use the potty.

Point is I always wonder about the beauty in the world.

I wish nobody knew about them elk.

25 or so years ago there was a true albino doe Prongron Antelope, not 30 miles from where I am. She stayed on a big section of lans surrounding a local lake/reservoir. The land all belonged to Texaco. They flew up one of their big wigs...he got off the plane...walke over to the shooting bench...shot the white "goat" and went back the Texas withhout even dressing her.

The full mount was sent back to where ever he was...and we never got to look at her beauty again.

I know they are not all that viable as breeders in the species...and they host a BUNCH of recessive genes that does not make the herd stronger...for that reason...they should be put down.

But...it ought to be special...done right...and by a person who whispers a prayer when the arrow leaves the string....

Ok...I am getting soft in my old age...but there it is.

So I wish nobody knew about them elk. Because odds are they will get poached and end up as some Asian aphrodesiac...instead of a memory for a true hunter....

Those are a fine Trophies... The buck I posted a few days back is my first deer. I passed up many smaller bucks for years becuase they were not mature enough. I've been hunting since I was 12, I'll be 32 on 12/14/08 and that is my FIRST deer. I've only been hunting REALLY hard for the last few years. but still I couldve popped does every year I've been out. and the occasional fork or spike ever 1-2 but I'm a trophy hunter. I'll be the first to admit it. I can afford meat. (for now!) I do eat what I take though when I do take an animal. I grew up reading about capstick and Selous and Kilimanjaro Bell. They all said it wasnt the kill but the hunt. I've found it to be true. cant wait for next year's hunt, when my pretty pretty thunderstick will speak again and I'll have more antlers on my wall :D

yeah boy....I love to eat them antlers!

They're hell to fit into the freezer though.

We dry them on the walls here to!

Funny how folks got so much in common!

I have nothing against hunting, but IMHO those two are much to beautiful to shoot.

I saw an albino deer one night. I was driving down a street and saw it with two regular deer on someone's front lawn. I thought they must be lawn ornaments because of the white one, but then they all walked a way. That was really neat to see.
