Got this on a fleemarket recently. Paid about 5 $:D . The perfect wilderness white gas lighter. Aboslute waterproof, no gas evaporation , works after months of storage. It´s made from aluminium and works like a classic zippo.
I was told, it would be a "custom" lighter. If this is true, someone should make this a commerially available product.

That thing is really cool! Not to mention the awesome score on price.

A good way to make sure your Zippo doesn't dry out overnight is to cut a wide rubber band from a bicycle innertube and slip that around your lighter. That will reduce fuel evaporation and also keep it from slipping around in your pocket.

Cool lighter, wonder how long it's good for on a single fill?

I think that is a downfall on standard Zippos.
Does rubber banding them prolong their life between fills?

There used to be a lighter, back many moons, that used lighter fluid, like a Zippo, but combated the evaporation problem by having, on the bottom, a clear, see-through storage compartment for the lighter fluid, usually with a fishing fly or the like, that was separate from the lighter workings. When you needed to refill the cotton with fluid, you turned it upside down and pushed a little valve on the side that let the fluid into the cotton. It was made by Scripto, or at least marketed by them.

Wish I'd bought a dozen, but they weren't as 'cool' as Zippos, back then. :(

Good tip, Alberta Ed, I'll have to give it a try.

Havn´t tested it so far. But I got the impression, that there´s not much difference to the Zippo. Considerung the evaporation fom the Zippo, it will work much longer.

Hey Guys..

Looks like my carbide smoker...

open the top,, drop a chunk of carbide in it,, add water and replace the lid..
Carbide and water turn into gas and bingo,, a lighter..

The lighter with the valve was a Ronson.
And the lighter shown looks like an old German style trench/military lighter,
the "O" ring base I have not seen before.
