White Paper Ivory Micarta

Yep, that's what I meant. The artificial ivory is an acrylic material if I remember correctly used in the medical industry for bone replacement and such. I had an errant file stroke skip from where it was intended and hit a part of the handle I didn't want the file anywhere near. I thought I had gouged the spot. Upon closer inspection, not even the tiniest scratch. I like the stuff. I just wish they offered the stuff in thick slabs at least 1" thick.

I just order a few pieces of the hi- mac , should be interesting .

Also Michael Sheffield got back to me and said that their Ivory Micarta is more white than an off white , so I have some of that coming also .

I'm a big fan of the "aged" artificial ivory that Jepcho sells. The regular stuff that isn't "aged" still looks good though.

I like the bead you did Marc. I was thinking about doing a couple of those, only with a brown micarta stripe in the middle(like the liners on the knife on page 1 of this thread). How did you do it? I thought I'd just a piece big enough and then drill a hole through the center. I'd try and leave it long on one end so I could chuck it into a drill press and then shape it with a drill press. I guess I'd have to round the end to be chucked though... Maybe I could just put a nail through the center hole and then chuck the nail into the drill press... Either way I'd probably use files to "turn" it and then sand paper. Is this how you did it? Sorry if I'm dragging this too off topic folks

Maybe cut the head off of a bolt and then chuck the bolt up in your drill press put the bead material on and then tighten down a nut on the threaded end of the bolt and you have kind of a poor man's vertical lathe.

Himacs is the LG version of Dupont Corian. Almost the same product.
I have both, last knife with them was at least two years ago...
I prefer paper micarta (but I'm biased because I sell it)

Pablo:
I've been interested in trying paper micarta. Is there a specific paper thickness/weight you like to use? Any pointers? Or a WIP you like (or did)?

Thanks!

I don't want to derail this thread. But in short, both you and Maelstrom78 are on the right track. It can be done any number of ways. I just drilled a hole and ran a screw through with a nut. Chucked it up in a cordless drill and ran it against my disc sander.

Pablo makes some really nice micarta

I once made the mistake of pointing to my site here in a sale...ish way, so I won't go that way again :)

Let me clarify, the micarta I sell for the local Argentina market is not made by me, I found a factory, I convinced them to make the micarta and put the money on the table. One year later, the product is used regularly by local knifemakers. The product is super uniform, changes only happen from batch to batch, minor differences in color, mostly due to the paper used or the particular color tone of the phenolic resin I guess.

I once had a sample of white and it was what you are looking for, but sadly its gone.
