Will, the full cryo should be done if only to to get 100% transformation to martensite. While cryo can also have immediate benefits in terms of wear resistance and durability, the full transformation is enough of a reason on its own. Retained austenite will transform to martensite over time and cause localized high stress regions in the steel.

Compared to what I have seen with CPM-3V, 10V and 420V (S90V), this is fairly surprising - of course the heat treat can make a huge difference.

Has anyone else noticed similar problems with their Whitewing 3V blades?

Cliff, haven't noticed any chipping on mine...yet, have a Warlock heading my way sometime soon and I hope that one doesn't show it either!
