40 years or so ago I was doing some wood carving and started making my own tools, including small knives. This is what got me started with my knife making hobby. A friend recently got me reintroduced to carving and I have been making knives and chisels for some local carvers; they have liked my work. The edge geometry on a wood carving knife is much different than that on a hunting or camp knife, different but probably easier to keep sharp with some wet/dry sandpaper and a leather strop. If anyone wants to learn my process on keeping a wood carving knife sharp please message me and I can make up a short tutorial although there are several instrucions on YouTube . I also like to put a polish on these blades, they are scary sharp and slide through the wood effortlessly. They also sing with their work especially when cutting across the grain.
Stock removal from 1/8 inch thick 52100 high carbon steel
Heat treated to Rc 60 with attention to a fine grain structure
Flat grind with a very slight convex giving a zero profile to the edge, no secondary grind like seen on my hunting knives
Spalted stabilized poplar handle (with worm holes)
Overall length: 7 1/3 inches
Blade: 2 7/8 inches
SOLD delivered within our United States. I prefer PayPal but please message me for my address. Phising is going on here.
Worm holes popped up in the handle when I was sanding but this is what caused the spalting. They were filled during the stabilizing process.
Here you can see the polish on the blade with the reflection of the light fixture in my office
