• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Whittler?

That is definitely a cool looking knife. What a great find! Here is one of Simonds ads from back in the day. You can definitely see the shield for your knife illustrated in this ad. Is that a plane blade, as in wood plane--not to be confused with an AIRplane. duh!

And, just out of curiosity, Jake, could you tell us how much that Simonds knife you posted sold for at auction? I'll give a second nod to synthetic on those scales, also. I think the shrinkage might be the tell there?

I think you guys are right about the synthetic... The knife sold for $152.50 plus shipping and the winning bidder had two unsurpassed bids. The third highest bidder was $100.99... about the price of a new GEC Northfield. I was bidder #2 (my usual place at auction close ;) ). If the same knife had the actual manufacturer's name (Camillus??), instead of the Simonds etch, it would have sold for a lot less. Thank you for sharing the ad! The knife books indicate that the figural shield is a saw... but the bevel on the right does look like the bevel on a plane blade. It sort of reminds me of the templates for a Porter Cable dovetail jig.

I'd love to find one of those whittlers with the etch.
