Whittling and Carving subforum

Hey, we can call it "Look what I made.":D, just kiddin'.

Whittling, Woodworking, Lanyards, & Crafts or Craftsmanship, Projects & Hobbies.

Either one sounds great.

That works for me, as long as it doesn't get too far afield. After all, stamp collecting is a hobby, but not really knife related. ;)

Jeez, he's already moderating off-topic posts! :D

Actually that's a good point. I don't want spoon or stamp or hummel figurine collecting in that area, and "hobbies" in the title could mislead someone. The Man Cave or the Wood Shop might give some of you the wrong idea too :)

Welp, knots aren't really knife related, woodworking (with saws or routers) isn't either unless you want to get really technical about saw blades & router bits.

Maybe "The Workshop: Projects, Tools, Techniques & Ideas" - Craftsmen, Machinists, Hobbyists and Shade Tree Mechanics welcome!

Eh, that sounds a bit formal

My mistake then...for some reason I thought you guys wanted knots involved (due to the association with lanyards etc).

So I incorporated "knife related" in the looser sense as opposed to it having to do with "using" a knife.

I'm fine with it any way you wanna go.

I like the idea of "whittling" in the forum name or at least the description. Just my $0.02

Whittling in the title just narrows the scope down. I'd like it to be for all sorts of projects & similar hobbies since whittling alone wouldn't justify a subforum.

Yes. I understand. My thinking is to keep it broad enough to make it viable but with clearly defined subject matter. Maybe whittling and/or carving in the description then. Something along the lines of Elliott's suggestion in post #28.

Hey, what do you have against stamp collecting? :grumpy:

:p

Unless it's blotter acid, Philatelists are spawns of the demon

Philatelists are spawns of the demon

Anyone who's worked in a post office knows this to be the absolute truth.
I've had these looney-toons screaming in the lobby because my office didn't have some obscure stamp a week before it was even issued.

Sounds like a great idea for a thread, it would definitely see my traffic. Whittling is a dying art that needs to be put out there where people can see it and show it to their kids and grandkids to myabe stir an interest in the fine points of life.

I use a mutli tool with a "knife blade" to make my lanyards.

No, not too formal at all. This defines things clearly.

What I envision is a place to share handmaking projects and skills. Stamps, figurines, and even a collection of knives isn't this forum's interest.

I know with the forum overhaul there are bigger fish to fry, but I don't want this to be forgotten.
