Not sure if this is the right place, but I know I whittle when I'm backpacking and whatnot.

So...

I'm looking for a multiblade folder for whittling. Currently I have a bunch of tools that I use, and I really think I could get by with a good 2-3 blade "old timey whittler knife". I was looking at Case, Boker, Henckles. It should be a carbon blade because it needs to be very sharp, and will get sharpened a lot. It also should have at least 1 detail blade at not much more than an inch to an inch and a half or so in length.

Does anyone here whittle? What knife do you use?

Thanks.

probably not what your looking for as the blades are not carbon, but I usually use a Vic sak (1 big and 1 small blade) My brother who is an exceptionally talented and avid carver only uses his sak. but I think anythin by case would treat you right

For a traditional folder that I carry when dressed up, I have a Boker copperhead pattern knife with two carbon blades and redbone handles. Otherwise I like a multitool for its functionality.

For far more discussion focused on traditional pattern jacknives, check out the "Traditional folders and fixed blades" subforum under the "General" heading.

AG russell sells a folding wood carvers knife that has several blades designed specifically for the wood carver. It may be what you are looking for. Carvin Jack

Case is now making a line of Boy Scout's of America knives and one of them is a whittler pattern.

I normally use a SAK for my whittling needs. It's the camper model that I use most often. Lately, I have been using my LM multitool alot.

Don't forget Buck and Canal Street, both still made in the USA.

Marbles if you want an import.

I went through this same thought a few months ago. I posted in the traditional forum here and got some advice. I ended up with a boker carbon steel trapper in yellow bone. works great. I really like having it around. I would definitely recommend a boker. If you can get some advice, or better yet handle some to get an idea what will be comfortable for your hand size.

Funny TLR, after TONS of reviewing of at least 30 different frames I went with a Boker Carbon Steel Whittler in Grand Canyon bone.

Anyone know the steel in this knife?
