Whittling suggestions

For whittling, you'll probably not find much better than a Stockman (or Whittler) pattern. I like the Stockman pattern myself but the Seahorse whittler looks nice too. If you have to have one handed opening, I agree with Buzz, the DoubleCross is the way to go. Most one handed openers have blades that are too large and thick to be good whittlers. You might want to carry two separate knives, a onehanded something and a whittler. That's what I do.

butch - that foldin' jack is awesome. Thanks! I think that'll be my next purchase. (thank goodness I'm right-handed...yikes!)

Pendentive -

You may want to check a couple of threads on a wood carving forum that I 'haunt' for some opinions on the Carvin' Jack. I cannot link directly to the threads for some reason, but if you follow this link, go to threads from Dec 12th (page 13 today) and Feb 6th (page 9 today) for some wood carvers' opinions on this knife.

I decided after reading other opinions that I wanted to actually hold one before ordering, as the handle is evidently quite large, but then it does pack a lot of blade profiles into one package. I've always been happy with other Flexcut (palm) tools I have bought, and their steel is great. Bern

Bern, thanks for the link, but I'm not sure what part of the message board to go to. Maybe you could tell me what section?

I like the small flex cut tools I've used in the past. Is this one asking too much of itself? (all-in-one)

Pendentive, sorry for the delay in getting back. Go to 'General Carving' then page through to the dates I gave above to locate the threads. Several of the writers on those threads have tried out or bought the knife and are discussing its pro's and con's for practical use. Bern

Thanks, Bern for the re-think. I think there's a Woodcraft nearby - I'll definitely check it out "in person" first.
