Just got an email from Neil at True North telling me mine is ready to ship out on Monday! Man I signed up in September but I'm sure others signed up way before then. It has been a wait for these. Tactical Knives just did an article on one this issue. I do know they switched to 440C with a special heat treat. (I think I read that) I ordered the Grade III with the ceramic peen finished body and black G-10 inserts. How many others out there have one coming and which model?

Just got home to find an email from Ryan Wilson telling me that my plain jane solid ti handle TacElite is good to go! Can't wait!

what's the approximate street price? Just checked the site and didn't find these folders.

Come on people. There has got to be more than two of us who ordered one and have been waiting and waiting and waiting. Sound off and tell us what you got coming! If you already have it lets hear some reviews. St James you ordered yours from Ryan Wilson? I also checked his site along with Darrel's for some updates that these were ready but saw nothing new about them......wasn't even on Ryan's site! Don't really matter though as they are ready and will be shipping next week!!!

Art, I ordered from Darryl, but Ryan actually built my knife. Just called him with my credit and shipping information, so mine should ship out on monday as well.

Looks like a really great knife. Perhaps I will find a way to do some further financial damage.;) :D

Just heard from Neil, what a super guy, and instead of having Ryan ship the knife to him and then he shipping it out to me, Neil just gave Ryan my info and had Ryan ship it to me UPS Overnight. Will be here tomorrow! I am really anticipating this knife and thought a whole bunch of people had signed up for one but apparently not due to the lack of response on this thread. It really looks to be a great knife and with either one of these makers putting them together they should be put together right. They must be built like a brick sh!thouse from the pics and the article in TK! May be buying a regular plain jane model if they turn out to be the knife I think they will.

Anyone else have one coming or already have it? Post it up as more people may be getting the word today that they are finally ready!:D  :)

I have the plain CQB coming:D It's supposed to be a D2 blade. I hope they haven't changed it to 440! My wife ordered it for me for christmas:) I didn't even have to hint all that much!:D

Hi seaplane. I think D2 was the original idea but 440C is the actual blade material. I understand that you can get on the list for an upgrade and that other blade steels are a possibility but 440C is the standard. The 440C was tested by Darrel and then it was modified to his liking. I think 440C-OS is the designation. 440C is a good steel though and when done by someone who has an understanding of steel like Darrel Ralph I'm sure it will be more than capable. I'm just curious as to how to get on the upgrade list? Anyone know.

Thanks for the info artsig. I sure didn't know that they changed out the D2! Looks like I might have to keep looking for a framelock with a D2 blade! I'm sure it will be a great knife, But the 2 websites I visited while looking at the CQB said that they were D2. Could you tell me where you saw that they changed the Blade to 440? Here is a link to one site that still lists them with d2. Darryl's site also states D2. Oh well, I'll try to like it anyway:D Here is Darryl's link. It states D2 also--- http://www.darrelralph.com/1mainframe.htm?ddr_knives_custcollab_main.htm~main www.phoenixblades.com/ryan_wilson_line.htm

It is mentioned on the last page of the thread anouncing them in the whats new forum.

Art,

I had a recent e-mail from Ryan saying he was ready to ship my Super Grade with Carbon Fiber inlays, so it should get here soon :).

BTW, the "OS" in 440C-OS stands for "our specifications", "our" being Darrel and Ryan.

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon. My first impressions are favorable. The knife is lighter, and thinner than I thought it would be, yet it is still hand filling and the handle ranks right up there with the KFF as one of the best. The lockup is as good as the Sebenza's I had which is saying a WHOLE lot. The locking bar comes over to cover about 1/3 to 1/2 of the blade tang and has just enough stick to it to let you know it is secure but not enough to hinder the unlocking process. There is no wobble either horizontally or vertically. The action is very, very smooth and closing the blade results in the last 1/2 inch just "sucking" the blade in to the handle! I have mine tightened down fairly tight yet it still just seems to glide open. The handfittting done on each of these knives shows in the quality you receive. So far so good, now comes the blade. The blade is made of 440C-OS steel with the OS being Our Specs. 440C steel is a good steel and has been in use for a long time. I had some knives in the mid to late 80's by Warren Osborne, before the art knives, that were made from 440C and they were excellent knives. I figure if anyoine can get the good out of 440C it is going to be Darrel! The coating is very even in appearance and has a rough texture, I guess time will tell on it. The blade shape is .........well, it is............sorta funky looking. It is a cross between a spearpoint and a droppoint. I would much prefer a clip/bowie point myself but can live with this and can actually see that it will be a useful shape.

The one I got has the G-10 inserts and these stick out approx. 1/32" but do give your hand a good purchase. The pocket clip comes for point down carry but holes are predrilled and have the screws in them for point up carry.

All in all a good knife and I expect mine will see a lot of outdoors use as I work around the house and in the yard.

Just want to clear up our collaboration.
Ryan and I do parts of the knife that we can handle best.
We both have input and touch every knife in some manner.

Ryan is great at building as you can see!

Please keep the comments coming!
We need the feedback!
Happy holidays

Anyone else have one? I have been advised that mine is on the way. Maybe I will have her before xmas.

Art, I suppose a Sebenza comparison is inevitable, so how do you think it compares?

It is the XL Sebenza that you often see come up on the CRK forum. The lockup is EXCELLENT and closing the blade just sucks it right in on the last 1/2" of travel and you feel the liner come over and "lock" the blade down. It is extremely smooth as the blade just glides open. I would say every bit as smooth as the Sebenza. The handle is one of the best parts though as the shape is right on the money. It is a little thin for me though. The article in TK mentioned that the ti slabs were .150" thick but they mic out at .125". Iwas also hoping to see a thicker blade somewhere around >150 to .160. Now these are personal preferences and in no way affect the quality of knife you get.

Thanks for the construction details, Darryl. I recieved mine last week, quality fit and finish and the knife feels great in the hand.

I ordered the basic model but the blade came with a black coating I didn't expect. I understood that the switch to 440C was made to fulfill customer requests for a blade that would resist rust and staining better. If the blades are to be coated as SOP, I would rather have the original D2, I don't see any advantage to the switch in steel.
