Just picked up a Benchmade Griptilian. Can't wait to get it. Who all uses theirs? what type of things do you use yours for?

I've got both the folder and the fixed.

I use them for cutting stuff.:D

Congrats on the knife. It's a winner.

I carry mine every day and usually use it at least 5 or 10 times. Today after work I went walking in the woods behind my new apartment and used it to trim some stickers from the path I was on. Great knife.

I do. I have many nice knives but for some reason my large sheeps foot grip is my favorite, has been ever since I bought it years ago. And, it still looks like new, except for the clip. EDC or the woods, I always have my grip with me. I have, cleaned trout, grouse, lightly battoned, whittled forks, spoons, kindling, cut boxes, steak, clumps of burrs from my dogs hair, etc, etc, etc...

I have both a fixed and folder. Yesterday, I went for a hike with my daughters and used the folder to de-bark some crabapple tree limbs so the girls could make witches brooms :) for halloween. Great fun and great blades - years of use.

i have EDC a mini-griptillian for the past 4 years or so.... it's a great knife.... you're going to love it...:thumbup:i tried the bigger version and it was just a little too big for my hands....:(
i think i might try and get a mini ritter griptillian, i've wanted to check those out for a long time now....:D

I use it at work, to do anything from cutting screens to opening packages, I carry it with me when I run or hike.

I also have the mini and the fixed. Looking forward to trying the fixed out when I find some time to get a ways outside city limits. Of course, where I am, we'll see how the wildfires end up :/

my 556 lives in my pocket all the time, unless it's out taking care of business.
It is the best small locking knife I've had in terms of utility, (if not good looks) and the plastic handle has grown on me. I don't like plastic handles generally.
The lock mechanism is also the best I've used for a folding knife.
The blade hardness seems about perfect; easy to resharpen/realign and keeps that great edge for a long while. No staining so far, and lots of wet weather use.

This is good to knoe, I wanted to hear of people using it on a daily basis. I knew that alot had one, and used them for that matter.

Thanks for the anwsures guys, I cannot wait to get it.

Hate to be the spoiler here. I have a Grip but it isn't my EDC. That's reserverd for a Spyderco Delica 4. The Grip is in my emergency pack.

I have the 556 mini grip 551 and the fixed grip. I love the two folders & use them every day excellent ergonomics (sp) on the handles good edge holding ability, cut up two roaster chickens last night for the oven still shaving sharp. the jury is still out on the fixed grip, I think benchmade did a poor job designing the grip panels on it they made them about 1/8 in. to small leaving a ridge that may cause blisters and will definatly be cold as hell in winter.

Just curious about any issues you may have had re: cleaning your grip after cleaning trout, grouse, etc. Every so often in the forums there's the question about getting gunk trapped in the axis lock, and I'm wondering if that concern is overblown.

I have a Benchmade Ares and 940, both with axis locks, but I've never used them for that sort of duty.

I have many grips. Let's see ... I have 2 ritter big grips, two ritter small grips, 1 yellow small grip, 1 small gray hole grip, 1 small black hole grip, 1 large trainer grip. 1 cabelas D2 grip. I think I may be missing some.

They are good knives. I use them almost every day. I EDC the D2 grip in IWB. I carry one other knife in my pocket but it depends on the day.

Wow, now im excited.

Thank you for the replies everyone, this one is gonna be a tester I think. :D

calingo,

I would say that stuff does can get into the axis lock more than other lock types, especially lint if it's oily. But in reality, I never notice that my grip is affected by that any more than my other folders. I wash it like any other knife after use (it went thru the washer and dryer once) and it's good to go. So my experience is that gunk getting trapped in the lock is a non-issue.
