Who are the top custom fixed blade hunting knife makers in the world (USING KNIVES)

My favorite knife for every situation in the woods is my Andrew Jordan Scout!

That´s a real fantastic hunter/user!

This shot was taken last week outside of Yellowstone Park. My brother and a fellow he just met that morning each dropped a bison on a 123 "fire" shot. Bob said he field dressed both buffalos with his Rudy Ruana knife he bought new in 1971 and never had to touch up the edge. No wonder Rudy is in the Cutlery Hall of Fame.

Notice how most if the "using" knives in the photos look like they just came out of the show room.

When searching for a using knife, ask the maker what uses he makes knives for, how he tests his blades and what kind of guarantee he will provide with the knife.

The one of mine shown has done numerous elk, deer, bear, antelope and various other tasks, in the past year, it is a loaner, if someone what to know how they can perform he can rent the knife, use it and get a return on his money when he returns the knife, the only cost is postage, but he has to write up his experiences with it.

I can recommend Eldon Perkins, Chris Amos without reserve.

You also have to take into the fact that some of those beauty queens have a background. What do you think Larry Fuegon and Tim Hancock carries when they go out in the mountains with them mules of theirs? Dan Farr, Lin Rhea, Harvey Dean, Mike Williams etc etc etcA bunch of them ole boys that makes beauty queens are in the field themselves using those pretty pieces. I can name you a bunch of them I have hunted with and talked hunting with that uses their own work.

Jerry - exactly correct.

check out the makers on this forum, some absolutly beautiful knives at great prices, a truly talented bunch alright

I have some of the knives mentioned here but I must say that the very best skinning and all around hunting knives I have used are the ones made by Tony and Reese Bose. It might not be their specialty as they make traditional pocket knives but their fixed blade knives are plain superior if you have a lot of use for your knife.

And the key seems to be the design of the blade and the tempering of the steel.

A couple more names to consider are Ed Caffrey and Karl Anderson. Beautiful and VERY functional.
I just grabbed a Karl Andersen Hinting knife and I could not be happier!

I grabbed it from stock in Ely MN, Bear Tracker… 100% satisfied with it upon first hold. This knife will see heavy use!

Sorry my iPhone corrected the proper spelling of your name, Mr Andersen! Great knife thank you!

My wife is from MN so I know what the proper spelling is in MN but my iPhone didn’t
