Who are the truly great "Instagram makers"?

This is why I'm not seeing it. I will never spend my time generating interesting conversations that exclude the public for no good reason. Half the pleasure of posting on Bladeforums is to share knowledge in a way that's visible and searchable to the public.

It’s every bit as visible, and with hashtags searchable as well.

And I agree SpySmasher, the convenience for a maker to keep posting WIP pics/vids sadly can’t be done on a forum. On IG I get to know makers who post essentially their whole stream of consciousness during a build and even go live or keep a story going during a build. Lately Sal Manaro has been doing just that, posting a quick easy vid every time he moves to a new machine or process. I never knew how he milled the bullseye pattern, but now I do!

Think of it like a personal conversation. Sometimes if you meet someone in a public group and you two go off on your own topic that the group has left behind, you'll want to step aside and speak to them one on one. Nothing wrong with it at all. Also as Jake said all comments on IG are public and viewable both on a computer and by people that don't have IG. There is also a DM option for private convos just like the forums have a Private Message function.

We're kind of in a subset of the whole IG thing. Most of the knives we make we sell to working cowboys, ranchers etc. Since we make a lot of other things for this lifestyle IG works well for us. So our page features a lot of other gear besides knives and a lot of pictures of our items being used in real life. We make a lot of different holsters, belts, sheaths, tack, chaps etc. So we're not just a knife maker on IG but we do sell a lot of knives through IG. We've got quite a few followers (11.6 K) which ain't bad for an old guy that doesn't even have a smart phone. My daughter set IG for me and posted for me for quite a while but when she moved off to college she set up my tablet for me and taught me how to post. So here we are now. Ya can click on the Instagram link in my signature line if cowboy stuff and cowboy knives interest you.

Man theres some good ones yall are missing @JoshRG aka gallarado knives makes some absolute beauties. Free hill blades, curt is a very under rated maker, makes some of the best forged knives thats not ABS. Who else? Oh hatcher knives is another excellent maker. Radknives, that dude is a mad scientist, hes currently forging multi layer titanium damascus and some high performance stainless damascus. Theres a few more im sure im missing. IG is where i get my knife porn fix and the forums is where i expand my knowledge. Oh nick wheeler has been pretty active on IG so thats cool as hell

Let’s be honest, while I totally agree there’s almost no critical comments or discussion on IG, forums have long suffered from this as well. Once in a while you’ll see polite but critical comments on a maker’s new knife or a knife a collector bought, but 95% of the time it’s all positive as few want to be the killjoy poster. :)

I got on Instagram way before I got the knife-sickness, but you know, I've stumbled upon some really cool knives and makers over the years, like "Fisk knives" I think he's called. Old southern guy who makes some really ridiculously nice bowies.

So for my part, IG "helped" me in my descent into this madness that we call knives.

Edit: it just occurred to me that I didn't really answer the question... So Fisk
