Hey, whether you are full time, part time, don't sell, give 'em away--who are those folks in Kansas that take the time to make some fashion of blade either for resale to just plain for fun? Stand up and be counted.
I'll start it off--

Dan Metsker--Overland Park--self taught--sells some and gives away a bunch-primarily stock reduction-fixed (but trying my hand at folders as well)

Hi Dan,

I am just getting started but I'm having a heck of a good time. I doubt this will be a very long list :).

Weeeeeel howdy Ya'll!:D

Fixed blades all the time. Am trying my hand at a folder right now. Mostley I give them away to friends and family but am finaly selling some. Stock removal too!:)

i was born in emporia, kansas. moved to california when i was 3. i am a full time maker and loving it:cool:

Ground my first knives out of files when I lived in Liberal and Hugoton. Grew up with sand in my hair and a sharp file under my belt! Sold my first "real" knives when I lived in Overland Park.

Hi everyone. I'm not a knife maker, but I just bought a couple of knives from Steve Voorhis of Inman,Kansas. According to A.G. Russell, Steve has been a full time maker for 20 years. He doesn't seem to have web access and doesn't advertise, but he is a very skilled maker whose knives I like very much.
John.

Part time maker. I live in Norwich today but will be moving to Goddard Monday. Larger shop/payment ya know. I would like to be a full time fisherman and a part time knifemaker when I grow up :D

Got more responses than I thought I would. Some great responses from those that live here and those that used to . Thanks Guys.

Hi all,

I just now ran across this thread. I am a full time maker in Wichita, Ks. I make tacticals, and am getting heaviliy into Japanese style blades. Intend to do some very traditional pieces soon.

Dale Reif is here also with his high art folders and Steve Isbell is part time with tac's and Japanese styles. We are all getting into the clay tempering enthusiastically. It both functional and fun.

There are a few others up north of here that don't get on the computer. Namely Steve Kraft, Harvey King, and the new president of the PKA is making knives now as well as being a professional dealer. Jim Magee in Salina.

Bruce Bump here. Born in Sedan Kansas in 1951 and lived in Olathe until 1964 when we moved to Oregon and finally Walla Walla Washington.

I remember chiggers an ticks the size of my thumb. I still miss the lightning bugs but not the tornadoes and dust storms.

Just goes to show you that there is more than ticks and tornadoes in the breadbasket of America. Looking at the headcount we've got some really good blade makers. It's gotta be that country air!

Forgot about Jim. He's a good guy and is making some sweet knives. Jim Magee, that is. He does a little Persian folder that is slick.

Speaking of Kansas knifemakers, does anyone know how I could contact Steve Voorhis to commision a knife I have in mind? I can't find his address or email anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Don't forget about Steve Culver in Meridan and Dan Dick in Hutch. Steve's a Mastersmith in the ABS and Dan does mostly stock removal, but starting to ply his hand at forging.

I also grew up in Kansas a small town north of Manhattan called Waterville.
