Let's keep it post 1960,to narrow it down some.

Here's mine in order--1st being my personal favorite.

1.Stevie Ray Vaughan(just a smidgen over Hendrix IMHO;))
2.James Marshall Hendrix
3.Eric Clapton
4.Carlos Santana
5.Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott
6.Steve Howe
7.Alvin Lee
8.Jimmy Page
9.Bucket Head
10.Kirk Hammett

A couple of great players that aren't on you list are Eric Clapton,Butch and Derek Trucks,Dickie Betts,I'm sure I can think of a couple more.

I am a huge Death Metal Fan, so here's my list:

1) Bill Steer (Carcass)
2) Chuck Schuldiner (Death)
3) Terrance Hobbs (Suffocation)
4) Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel)
5) Paul Ryan (Origin)
6) John Gallagher (Dying Fetus)
7) Max Kolesne (Krisiun)
8) Jason Mendonca (Akercocke)
9) Anders Bjorler (At the Gates)
10) Pat O'Brien (Cannibal Corpse)

I would put Scott Hull on the list but Pig Destroyer is more grindcore than death metal. I've seen all of these players live except for Jason Mendonca and I've only seen Anders Bjorler with the Haunted not At the Gates. Chuck Schuldiner is the only non-living guitarist on the list (RIP).

Can't do "top ten" but here are ten I like off the top of my head.

Wes Montgomery
Kenny Burrell
Pat Martino
Carlos Montoya
Danny Gatton
Django Reinhardt
Hendrix
Santana
T-Bone Walker
Sonny Sharrock

There's only the option of 10,when it comes to polls.I also would've included Carlos Santana,Jeff Beck,Slash,Dickie Betts(nice call beau5278;))...etc.

If you're wondering why I have Steve Howe up there, listen to this acoustic diddy called "The Clap" off the YES Album(just a small example of his enormous talent). It's simply amazing. It sounds like two(sometimes three guitars at once),but it's just him.I know it's not studio magic either cause I seen him do it live.

I should've titled it better too,like metal/rock/blues guitarists.I also noticed I put "you" instead of "your"...so come & get me grammar police!:D

here's a clip of a young Steve Howe playing "The Clap" live.Definately worth the 3min20secs if you're a guitar enthusiast;)

...sorry haven't figured out how to add video yet:o

3. Anson Funderburgh
4. Eric Clapton
5. Ted Nugent
6. Buddy Guy
7. Eddie VanHalen
8. Eduardo Fernandez
9. Andres Segovia

11. Chet Atkins
12. Andrew Hardin

I can come up with more... have to check my CD collection at home.

You guys are covering the bases of a lot of the greats. In my opinion Frank Zappa should be on any guitar players list, because shut up and play your guitar is freakin' amazing! If it's influence as well as virtuosity then you gotta include Tony Iommi.

You are absolutely correct on those!

...wish the polls could go to at least 20

I would've thrown Zakk Wylde on there. The guy can do anything with the guitar. Outstanding classical, blues, and most importantly, metal guitarist. Since he's not on there, I had to vote for Randy Rhodes, another amazing classical-trained guy.

Others that deserve mention:

Michael Wilton (Queensryche)
Jason Becker (David Lee Roth's former guitairst - unfortunately struck down with Lou Gherig's disease when he was 20)

John Lowery (David Lee Roth former guitarist) - unforunately went to Marilyn Manson, then Rob Zombie

These two guys have to be mentioned together - the great studio musicians Dick Taylor and Stephen Hunter - these guys did the stuff the other guys couldn't - from John Cougar, to Lou Reed, to Aerosmith, to David Lee Roth.

Seems like everyone on my list is either a classically trained musician or an ex-DLR guitarist.

David Gilmour
Joe Walsh
Doyle Bramhall
Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Eddie Van Halen

...since only 10, an honorable mention goes to Robin Trower and Joe Perry

I was actually torn between Zack & Randy, but in the end Randy won.Maybe cause I grew up listening to him,my age bracket...etc

Zack is an enormous talent no doubt:thumbup:

This poll could've easily gone to 50 choices.

In no particular order:

Chuck Schuldiner - Death
Pat O'Brien - Cannibal Corpse
Karl Sanders - Nile
Dallas Toler Wade - Nile
Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka - Decapitated
Morgan Steinmeyer Hakansson - Marduk
Abbath Doom Occulta - Immortal
Alex Skolnick - Testament
John Williams - Classical Guitarist
Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin
Tony Iommi - Black Sabbath

I think it was Ozzfest'02(not good with years) when I seen Primus.I won these tix off some radio station. The passes allowed us to go right up to front row.Les Claypool's bass was vibrating every organ in my body,& literally chattering my teeth:eek::D.At one point he looked directy at me & clearly seen I was a bit uncomfortable, but still waaay into it:D.He just grinned at me & continued to slap that bass like no tomorrow.Les is without a doubt my favorite bassist, with Flea probably second.;)

Then out of no where came this guy with a KFC bucket on his head.I though who the heck's this freak?!....Then he just started wailing that axe like I've (almost [SRV]) never seen.:eek:It was some of the fastest & complicated fret work I've ever seen!Been a buckethead fan ever since:thumbup:
