Who can fix this for me? This knife is part of a set that was given to my friend by his late father. The knife fell into the bottom of the dishwasher and one of the scales was chewed off.
I have new cutlery rivets that match the originals. He wants it to look as close to original as possible. I'm not sure about the type of wood. I hope that I'm not breaking any rules by posting this. I'm just trying to help out a friend who has a sentimental attachment to this knife and an incomplete set of steak knives.

If you are asking advice on repairing it yourself, just fit the scales and sand them down. A finish of some type like True Oil would be a good idea. When ready for the finish, I suggest sanding down and re-finishing all the handles in the set so they all have a nice new matching shine. Be sure to tape up the blade to avoid cutting yourself when working on the knife.

If you are asking for someone to do it for you, there is a place in The Exchange for that.

The wood shown is a cutlery grade plywood. It is thin layers of wood that are bonded with phenolic resins. Basically, wood Micarta.
It can be fund on eBay from time to time, and some of the knife suppliers carry laminated wood handle materials that might look close to it.

If you filled out your profile with a location and such, someone near you might be able to offer help and/or the matching wood material.

You have not filled out your profile, or enabled email, so I can't contact you. Normally, folks would just click "back", and not be able to help you.

Send me an email. I found the stuff I have last night.
