I would like the black coat of my zt mudd knife blade removed & the blade satin finished. does anyone know someone who does this?i hate those black coatings, they only scratch & look terrible after use........

That's very nice:)
Related to this, do you guys know how can I remove scratches by hand?
Metal polish or fine snadpaper don't seem to work..

you might need to buff the scratches out since doing it by hand wont work. depending on how deep the scratches are, you might try some really fine abrasive cloth starting out with 1500 or 1000 grit to see what that does. you can always go to a little coarser grit and work your way back up. dont start off coarse or you could put lines in that are deeper than the scratches.

Thanks Richard!
The scratches are not deep, they look sort of bad only on artificial light.
It shouldn't bother me, I use this knife a lot.
There aren't professionals or good stores out here (Romania...), I'll try to order some sort of cloth.

John

I don't know if emery cloth is graded the same in Romania as it is here in the US, but I find the fine grit, which is called 4/0 and is about an 800 mesh grit, is excellent for putting and maintaining a satin finish on blades. Emery cuts particularly fast, use it with some WD40 sprayed on it for best results.

I actually have some 1200 emery cloth and wd40 at home, i guess i should try harder to see results.
Shoud i use it in motions paraller or penpendicular to the edge?

I like to go perpendicular to the edge. Here's a photo of a Kershaw Junkyard Dog II which I shortened the blade and took down the spine a bit, then did with 4/0 emery cloth:

The Dog looks very nice.
Perpendicular is the way to go, after more than one hour work on the Skirmish's blade it looks much better.
Thanks for your help.
Here is Skirmish with other small knives, the G10 T1 is my wife's ;)

Glad to hear it worked out well!:thumbup: Nice looking collection you've got going there, BTW.
