Who carries a large Sebenza?

I'm like shike -- in fact, I'm probably a bit over-carried, being a bit of a tool head. I like my large regular Sebenza the most, and use it when the environment is right (which is 80% of the time). If there's scare-potential, I use my mnandi, and if the job calls for a different tool, the Vic Huntsman Plus comes out. There's other tools as well on me . . . my family just roll their eyes.
Yeah! It's amazing how much junk cargo shorts and pants can carry:D

I carry a Large Micarta sebenza often. At work I also pack a slip joint as to not draw attention.

ditto the large micarta for me. Some sheep get a little big in the eyes when I pull it out, but I carry a Vic for situations requiring discretion. The large seb is a hard worker, nothing in my edc lineup quite fills its place.

Well I should say that a Large Sebbie is a modest knife..
I'm edc-ing 3 knives: a Strider SnG, a large Manix and a Large Classic Sebenza.
From those 3 the Sebbie has the lowest "profile" if yo would put it that way.
And most of the time I carry the SnG because of its lowest weight.
So just use your Sebbie as an edc knife I would say!

I was carrying my large reg. every day, but since wearing cargo pants, find the clip is wearing away the material on the lower pocket. I'm planning to get the CRK carry sheath so I can start carrying it again.

I used to carry a Lrg. Reg. Now, I want a lighter folder. Enter, Warren Thomas. The Sebenza is for my son when he is older. :)

I have a couple of large Sebbies, but they do not see much pocket time anymore. Usually I carry one of my small Sebbies. A point made above is worthy of note- a small knife helps for akward social situations. I carry a Case Peanut at work, not much bigger than a SAK classic, but lots of cutting power. A SAK is also a good choice.

I just got my first real knife! A large 1 of 200 Sebenza Tanto's. It is awesome! I've been into knives for twenty years or more. I've actually studied numerous martial arts that incorporate knife fighting and defense. My problem is that I can't bring myself to carry this knife at all! It's too pretty and I'm afraid to use it and/or lose it!!!!!!!!!

I carried a small regular for several years and found it covered my needs. While it was at the spa, I started carrying a large classic. It's in my pocket now. Although the small met my requirements, there's something about the size of the large that appeals to me more. Note I don't carry for self defense.

On the other hand, I recently went on a vacation during which we visited some of my wife's relatives. I asked her whether the large would freak her relatives out. She said yes, so I carried the small. That's okay with me. I've been trying to educate her family on knives, so I thought it was a small sacrifice. I've given her father 2 knives, and have sharpened her sisters kitchen knives numerous times. I vow to work with them until they'd accept the large without flinching.

Welcome to the forums!

While I don't carry my Sebenza as a dedicated self-defense knife, I would say that if you really want to carry/use it, please do. When I first got mine, I did so to use it, but I did feel some reservations. My knife felt kind of...distant to me (if that makes any sense), until I felt a need to reprofile its edge for my personal uses, and began using it. You will "bond" with the knife in a way that doesn't really happen otherwise, unless the knife is bought for a collection. By bond, I mean develop an extreme familiarity and comfort with the knife. If you use it in a location where you're worried about losing it (like the woods, or a boat, or wherever) you could tie a cord through the lanyard hole and attach it the other end to your belt loop. I personally removed the pre-tied lanyard that came with it when I first bought it so that lanyard hole would be clear for that purpose. Sure, it may develop some normal slight scratches through normal carry/use, but those mark it as your own unique knife. Much of the pleasure in owning a Seb is in the joy of using it! :)

I carry a Large Regular Sebenza every day, and love it. I don't find it too large at all.

It does, however, unnerve some people when I pull it out. One person at work even said "What are you doing carrying a switch blade?!?" I could hardly believe it. A switch blade? Whatever. I don't care if it makes people uncomfortable.

I work in the office half the week and on construction sites the other half. I always carry a lg Seb and a leatherman skeletool CX. The supervisor is a certified knife nut(thanks to me). Everyone looks for me or my supervisor or another Wali made knifenut buddy to cut stuff for them.:D
Carry the large-people get used to it and begin to ask you to cut stuff for them!

I pretty much have a large Sebenza on me at all times. Most of the time I keep it in those tiny coin pockets within the pocket. Works out well, with jeans ...I just clip it to the pocket. I do all my fine cutting with the sebbie. I generally carry a Leatherman Wave as well for tooling purposes. The pliers, file and screw drivers come in very handy.

When dressing up for an occasion I take a Mammoth with me, fits the attire better.;)

Thanks everyone!

On your advice I have started to carry my Large. I love it! I tried going back to my small and it felt like a toy!

I'm also carrying a peanut along with it in case of those awkward situations. Thanks for all your stories!

I'm in the same boat as you, except for I like the SOG Powerlock. It's a great one. I have a leatherman too, but for some reason I keep reaching for the SOG. I really like the gears. It doesn't flop around or anything.

I just got my first large JD Sebenza the other day from a fellow fellow JD forumite. I've been carrying it today and the Sebbie feels real good clipped to the 5.11's. I'm sorry I waited so long. I have been carrying a 1st Production Run Rat 1 and it still will be a "go to" knife, as well.

I often carry a large Sebenza. In situations (usually at work) where I think it might offend and reflect negatively on me I kind of conceal it in my hand and only open the blade half way. A lot of cutting chores can be accomplished discreetly that way. If the situation needs the blade to be fully deployed, well then, I figure it's a good thing I had it on me...

I don't think there should be any awkward situations for an electrician using a sebenza at work. That seems like a perfectly normal activity to me. Any negative comments you get would be the same as you'd get while using the peanut... they'd all come from some uneducated, or knife-scared person.

Enjoy that fine tool.

That didn't sound quite right, but was meant to. ;)

As a general contractor, I see my electricians sport some very nice knives. Lead electrician uses a SRKW Hairy Carry LE 3.5" and his foreman carries the Fehrman Peace Maker. Another uses a BRKT Bravo-1. I usually carry a Busse Sus Scrofa by my side, switching out to a 'Zaan when work is over...
