Who carries a Russlock

I've been thinking about picking up a Case Russlock. I like the design and was wondering how they fare as an edc knife. Does the leve r for opening the knife stick your leg if carried in pocket?
If anybody carries one regularly, how do you carrie it and do you like it?
Thanks in advance for your feedback

I have several Russlocks and have a fondness for the pattern. I have at times carried a Russlock as my primary carry. I guess it all depends on which pockets you want to carry it in and what kind of trousers or jeans you wear.

As far as the utility of the knife - it looks different but you get a very functional clip point shape with a sturdy but pointy tip. Once you get the hang of it, it opens and closes one-handed easily and without having to glance at it. But it does take some getting used to, if you are coming from modern one-handed flipper or thumbstud/hole opening knves. The liner lock engages effectively on mine and there is no blade play.

One reason I don't often carry mine these days is that I have settled into just a few knives in a general rotation, and I prefer multi-blade knives. At one time, though, the Russlock was one of my favorite carry knives shortly after I got the first one.

Where I carry a pocket knife has evolved over time. I carried the Russlock in the same places that I carried any other pocket knife. So today I would carry it in my right rear pants pocket, vertically beside a notepad that rides in the same pocket. Alternate locations would be in jeans watch pocket or loose in the bottom of my right front pocket. Just depends on the day and what else I have on me. The little lever that sticks out is rounded and is no more "pokey" than a car key is on a ring of keys. I have never noticed any discomfort or damage to clothing from the opening lever.

Carry one a lot love the horizontal sheath to carry in. I keep in on my belt in the back don't even notice it's there

For about 5 years or so I carried either this Russlock or a medium stockman. I still carry it every once in awhile, but once I got the nerve to use my GECs, I really haven't gone back. It does sit next to my chair and gets plenty of use there.

As jc57 jc57 mentioned, it does take a little while to familiarize yourself with it, but once you get it, it'll be a breeze to open.

I've had zero issues with it in my pocket. It fits well in almost all of my watch pockets.

I have maybe 5 or 6 Russlocks, and they're all clip point. I personally do not like the look of the drop points, nor do I think they would serve me as well, but that's strictly my opinion. Others feel the opposite way.

I've got about the same number (I think 5), 2 of which are the drop point. I agree - I prefer the clip point myself. Just a better profile for the things I use a pocket knife for. The drop point is easily pinchable if you don't want to use the lever, though.

These are neat knives. They remind me alot of the front flippers that are beginning to become popular in the modern folder world.

I actually think they are quite handsome! Particularly the drop point which I almost never see. The clip point looks like it would be very comfortable to lay your pointer finger across the spine when doing some types of cutting.

Thanks for the help everybody. I'm gonna give one a try. I'll let everyone know how it goes,

I've always been curious and just love the way they look but haven't mustered up the will to fork over the hard earned cash on a "maybe".
I'll keep watching the exchange though...

Sorry hhmoore just realized I gave you the wrong email, it should be knifeguy248yahoo.com
I checked out you profile and I'm notsure how to leave a message.
Please feel free to email me.

Time to revive this thread, since I found one that I had (mostly) forgotten about....(can't say totally forgotten, or I wouldn't have been looking, lol).

The middle three have never been in my pocket

Randy-glad you still like the knife. Carrying it in a sheath makes lots of sense. Glad to know it gets a little love, from time to time. Much better than hiding away in my closet.;):D
Thanks, Neal

Well, I was the fortunate recipient of a Russlock courtesy of hhmoore hhmoore and I have to say that I'm liking it.
From the "old angry flipper" to the old time liner lock right down to the rosewood scales... every thing appeals to me.
It's all been looks so far but I'm going to sharpen her up and take her for a spin next and see how she handles the curves!

Thank you again for the amazing generosity! I'm humbled by and thankful for it.
I think this one is getting passed down to my son one day :)

I post some pictures after I get it sharp.

Forgive my ignorance, but I know zero about Russ locks and this thread has me curious about the function. I guess I've always overlooked them because my assumption was the metal tab coming off the blade (don't know what it's called?) was used to press down with your thumb to lock the blade in place. The images here are liner locks, now I see the metal tab is an opening mechanism - like a traditional version of a modern flipper, but likely 100x slower? If that's the purpose it seems odd to me because the blade rides high enough to pinch open. So, I'm guessing the real and only function of the tab is for one hand opening?

I could google the history, but curious if anybody knows off the top of their head how long this design has been around and who is "Russ" :)
