Who carries a Victorinox SAK Only?

I keep telling myself that I want to add one of my Spydercos to my EDC, but it seems that most days I only have a SAK in my pocket. For my cutting needs the SAK is about perfect. I usually have more of a problem deciding on "only" one SAK.

Realistically, in a typical week, for 6 days out of 7 I could get by with just my Compact for all my knifely needs. I carry more knives, but if I had to have just one, a SAK would be a quite feasible choice.

For many years the only knife I carried was a single Victorinox Spartan. It was an older version, w/out the tweezers/toothpick features, and the red plastic handle was harder, more solid than the ones in recent years. It served me well during those years and really help up.

Nowadays I carry multiple knives, more than I need to, really. But the SAKs I always carry are a black Vic Executive, and a Vic Soldier. They complement each other very well, and esp. the Executive gets used all the time. For harder cutting I use one kind of one-hander or another.

I carry a Swiss Army Knife, but I also carry some kind of tactical folder and I am really wondering if its really at all necessary.

So, how do you guys get along with just an SAK?

I have been asking myself that question for a while. I am not into tactical knives. But traditional slipjoints. There have been times I would have 5-7 knives on me. Not that I needed them, I am not that active since I am disabled. But because I liked them and wanted to carry them. But I would always say to myself, self, you don't need all these knives. All you need is your SAK. If I do carry more it is because of what I said earlier. but I find myself carrying less and less knives. I have carried just a SAK and been fine. They do it all and do it well. I am sure I will get to the point where I will carry just a SAK. But it might be 2 of them. Yah know how it is. It can be hard to pick one. Or I might want a set of tools that are on one, but need another tool, so I grab another to cover my basses. I am really itching for a Champ, and I am sure that when I get it, it will often be the only knife I carry. It would be all I need.

I also find that lately I have only been buying SAK's. I guess since they are the ones I really carry. Others are just pretty pocket jewlery that I sometimes use to open my mail. But do I need to carry them? No. My SAK will do what I need it to. But do I carry them. Yup. Cause I want to. Will I always want to. Maybe not. But I will wlays want to get them out of the case and play with them though. Might just use them for that in the future and use my SAK's for carry and real work.

in addition to my vic classic I only carry one knife... either a sak camper or hiker, or a traditional slipjoint....but more than 1 full size folder is just over kill imho.

Well this thread made up my mind for me. I am going all SAK till further notice. Here are todays carry pieces.

The Champion Plus was my first SAK after a 15 year hiatus from them. Great tool:thumbup: i rather like that it does not have the dinky yet cumbersome pliers on it. I can find a use for most every tool on it, and it still rides reasonably comfortable in my pocket. It also has the almost indispensable OTF philips driver.

I couldn't agree more. I was at a graduation party today and had my Champ Plus in my right front pocket and my Trekker in my front left. Did not notice either of them. In fact, I felt for both of them because I thought maybe I forgot them since I did not notice them in my pockets. When I hear people say a certain knife is to big in the pocket I just laugh. I guess from years of carrying a 25 oz. 38 SPL in my pocket, just about any knife would seem small. :D
