He he, you know I make braided cords as a hobby but this one is just a length of yarn, I remove the metal ring from the whistle, thread a piece of yarn through and tie the ends together with a fisherman knot (which allows me to adjust the lanyard for size), it's strong enough to hold the whistle around my neck but if pulled hard it will break without hurting me much.
I carry a little bird-dog whistle on my key chain. Small, light, pealess, $4.50. I wear a similar one on a lanyard when bird hunting, but that one's made of horn and is more expensive.
