Who carries step drills these days?

The step drills I've been using for nearly 12 years are finally wearing out, and even though many of the knife supply places still list them, seems they can't get them either.
They are offering a newer style that works well in handle scales, but will not work in normal butt cap materials like steel.
One of you fancy-schmancy machinests able to make some of these?

Karl, you could drill the proper minor diameter hole in the steel then chase it with a pilot type counterbore. I know it involves two steps but that might help if you can't find your step drill.

In a pinch you could use a pilot drill followed by a counterbore, but I understand the efficacy of the step drill. I will keep my eyes open. What sizes are you after?

I just made one of my own. Took a end grinder and used 2 ubolts to clamp it to a piece of 1/2" aluminum that would clamp in my lathes tool post. Then used a thin cut off disk in the end grinderand turned the bit in the chuck while the end grinder was on. Worked great. Cheapo tool post grinder.

You're just down the road from me, Mark.
Thanks for the links.

Yep... looks like a straight shot down 24... I don't get up to those parts too often, but I'd love to check out your shop if I'm in the neighborhood. Of course, you'd always be welcome here as well, but I think you'd be seriously unimpressed.
