Who carries their EDC in a belt sheath?

I've had a knife clipped to my pocket for about eight years now, but I'm tossing around the idea something clipless like a Buck 110/112 or a Gerber Gator. It seems like the sheath would clear up some pocket space and I'd never have to worry about it coming unclipped, but at the cost of it not being as handy. Any first hand experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I really liked carrying the passaround SnG in the kydex belt sheath. It was faster and easier to get to than having it my pocket!

Currently, I have my Sebenza clipped to my pocket though...

I love a good belt sheath, I have several leather sheathes made by Gary Graley as well as a few for my Sebenza folders made by Gfeller Casemakers. The best cordura sheath I have come across is the OS-1 offered by TAD Gear, it fits most 3.5"-4.5" folders. I always have one of these on my belt with a favorite folder for EDC.

I often carry in a sheath. I like a nice custom sheath as much as I like a nice custom knife. Like James mentioned, Gary makes some beautiful sheaths.

I've never worn sheaths much in the past, but that is the only way that I carry my Benchmade MiniGriptilian now. The handle feels better to me without the clip, and I was not comfortable carrying such a smooth opening knife in the tip up position. I got an inexpensive Cordura sheath from A.G. Russell that works really well.

I've also been carrying my Juice S2 and Kf4 in the sheath that LM designed for this tool. It works with the tool in either the closed or open position. It rides high on the belt, so it is unobtrusive. And, what I like best is that it clips to the belt, so I can put it on and take it off without undoing my belt. Darn handy, especially for $6.

I have two custom made folders, (a Carson & a Washburn, both with stag handles) both take turns as an EDC in a Gary Graley sheath. Heck I knew Gary was going to make the sheath before I knew who was going to make my first folder. Both sheaths are cantered to be worn on my left side for a right hand cross-draw. I'm not a quick draw artist, but these knives are handy when I need them.

I like pocket clips, but I don't think I would order one on a custom.

Along with either my Sebenza or Buck Odessey in front pocket, a Custom Buck or Buck 112 BG42 is on my belt. Frank, you may want to lok at Buck's website and PCKS to put together a custom 110.

I carry a Case folding hunter in a sheath that lifter4him made for me, and love it.

I always carry a multitool in a belt pouch. Along with a cellphone, harmonica, and the multitool, I feel lopsided adding a folder sheath to the array! I like the sheath that came with the MOD CQD but since I always carried my Buck/Strider in a front pocket, I'll probably carry the MOD that way, too.

Since I'm getting to like my shirt-pocket folders, I now have another good location for an EDC like a small Spyderco, small Sebenza, 3" DDR EDC, and (as of today!) a Mnandi.

Actually, my waist sticks out far enough without adding anything else to my belt. :footinmou

but the one I'd like to put together is out of my price range right now. Besides, I thought it might be a good idea to see how I like that mode of carry before I drop a lot of dough on a knife. That way if it just sits in the car or a drawer it's not such a cryin' shame.

I immensely dislike clips and wish there were more options for "clipless" knives. I know most knives allow you to unscrew the clip, but even on these you've got screw holes and indentations in the handle where the clip sat. I'm having a knife made for me right now that'll be clipless and its going to immediately go to Leatherman for a sheath.

A belt sheath is just not an option for me due to my work enviroment. I teach 7th grade science so a belt sheath just would not go with my daily attire. I like a clip for that reason! During off times though I've carried in a belt sheath and during the summer time I will carry using a belt shaeth.

Frank, for curiosity(?) sake, what did you pick? Iy's always fun to see what others pick out.

I'm with artsig1. Work every day in a suit so sheath is to obvious....clip is much more covert. Especially with the mean lookin tactical folders I carry around. Much easier access for me too. I also catch the train every day and need something that can be accessed quickly and easily if some punk decides to ask me for my money. Only downside is the clip makes the grip less comfortable.

The Leatherman always goes in the sheath though.;)

I agree with Andrew. Clip for a knife, sheath for Leatherman. Where I live people will think you are trying to be Davy Crockett with a knife in a sheath, a multi-tool is ok, though because it looks like you are out to fix something, not skin a bear.

Sometimes, though, my clipped knife has fallen out, once taking off my coat on the train it was snagged by my coatr and fell on the seat in front of a horrified passenger... and last weekend will sitting indian style on the floor at a family function and playing with nieces and nephews my horrified sis-in-law pointed to my Camillus Cuda EDC that had worked itself out of my pocket and on the floor. She flipped.

Anyone else have this happen? :(

Probably would have by now but I have trained myself to always be aware of the presence of a knife in my pocket. So I am always subconciously tapping it with my hand to make sure it's still in there and fully concealed

I do the same thing Andrew. In a crowd especially, but also not in a crowd. I reach down and brush my hand against my pocket to be sure everything is where it should be. That is another reason why I like a little bit heavier knife, as they tend to stay put when clipped to your pocket.

My main EDC is a Dozier Straight Personal fixed blade that rides in a horizontal sheath in the cross draw position. I also sometime cary either a Case Trapper or a Benchmade BM42 balisong in custom sheaths by Gary Graley (who I would highly recomend!) Since Christmas I have gone mostly to just carrying the Dozier and a BM31 balisong clipped in my pocket though I'm thinking of gettin a sheath for the BM31 to wear on my belt. I mostly prefer belt carry, leaves pockets more available for keys, checkbook, etc.

I carry a buck 532 in one of lifter's horizontial sheaths. It works perfect for me as the regular vertical sheaths rub the wheels on my wheelchair.
