Who designed the 124 Frontiersman?

I just find it funny that no one, not no one can say who the heck designed this knife, or at least gave the ideas for it. I know if I had a big knife company I would have a record section of every knife designed, made, thought of, and notes on a case file on each and everyone of them.

Good record keeping is to be desired, but I'm thinking that back in the old days before Buck's became collectable there probably didn't seem to be a major issue for them. They probably just figured that down the road, no one would really care who designed what, if they gave it any thought at all.

History has a way of slipping away as we are focused on the urgent concerns of the present.

That's just the way it is.

Ask any knife collector where he got a particular knife.......sometimes he'll be able to tell you.

I've got a 2 line 124 with a flappy sheath on the way. And I get to go to the Atlanta show. I'm Buckin' happy, you bet!

Sorry for drifting off topic, I was overwhelmed with the anticipation of my 124. I'll see what I can find out at the Atlanta show and post here when I get back. Since the knife was introduced in '67 (I'm assuming PDave's info is accurate), who worked at Buck in those days that made the decisions to put a knife into production. Seems like it would take at least 2 years with conception and design, prototyping, testing and marketing survey before committing to tooling up for production. Someone had the itch for it. Good question!

I was lookin at one of my 124s today and it came to me, that in all the discussions about this knife, I do not remember anyone saying who designed the knife. So per the title question, who designed the 124?

I asked at the blade show, You're only hope for a difinitive answer lies in Chuck and his memory.
