Who do you look up to? Who inspired you most?

Now a long time before i did start making knives, Autine tools inspired me alot, and got me more interested in the craft, ofcourse because they also came out of Latvia. Some time before i started making knives i looked up to makers like A Seedy Lot knives, Gossman, DeadStandingPine, Pekka Tuominen. Now 2 years ago i thought to me self - i will make knives when i have a steady job/income, so i can buy all the best equipment etc. At that time i had a 1x30 grinder a drill press and not much more. There is a certain knife maker that i have to thank big time, and that is DeadPineKnives DeadPineKnives when i was talking to him, i stated the above mentioned plan and ''worry''. Instead of not saying anything, he said, ''The time is to do it now, with what you got''. Basically he was the one who pushed me over the edge of the cliff and straight into the knife making world, and i don't regret falling into it😄. Since then i have met/talked to a lot of awesome people in this knife making world, and even made new friends. Not to mention - the amount of knowledge i have gotten from everyone and everything. That is why, for me, he is and was the most influential knife maker for me! + i managed to get all the equipment, even without a steady job and income. One thing comes to mind with anything in life ''Just do it''.

I appreciate you buddy! ;) The way I see it, I started with nothing, so why can't anyone else? :)

I just learned that Retired Senior Chief Boatswains Mate and Norfolk based knifemaker, Paul Holloway passed away last month. Paul was one of the local knifemakers in Virginia that provided mentorship and guidance to me in my knifemaking journey when I lived in VA Beach.

RIP Paul.

Sad,
I was Paul's paper boy 60 years ago. Never really knew him as a knifemaker, but he had a garage full of machines he built.
