Who do you remember from before they got big...

I remember Michael Burch in the usn just making the transition from fixed to folders. If I recall they were about 4-500.

I was a fan of Don Hanson from the get go. I believe I bought several of his early Bowies. And they were a lot cheaper then. :)

I remember talking with Edmund Davidson at the local gun shows. He was selling knives for less than $100 which at the time was still a bit out of my budget.

I bought and still have a drop point hunter f.b. from R.J. Martin in 1989 at a Waterbury Ct knife show for 100$.--KV

The above are just a few off the top of my head. I remember reading about some of them in BLADE before there was internet or seeing them at their first BLADE show. Some I watched develop online.

I also have a couple of knives by makers that for whatever reasons just never made it big. The quality of their work was good, their business practices sound, but they just couldn't make a living at it.

+1 for Graham, when it was both brothers and people didn't 'get' the Razel. Could get on their website and order from about 10 different knives, pick steel, scales, liners and other options and have it in a few months for a very good price.

Heck yes I remember Tom Krein back when you could get knives from him that weren't made by Boker.

I remember when gas was 99 cents a gallon, and I'm not even old.
Ha! Ha! How about 19 cents a gallon, regular or ethel. What about Nick Wheeler he makes some nice knives but I haven't seen much of him around here.

I've known Andy Roy of Fiddleback Forge for years. I remember when he was first bending leather and posting over on the HI boards. I've bought two knives from him. One I would consider a "Gen 1" from when he still wasn't full time. It's a Woodsman model that has seen more hip time n the woods than any other fixed blade I own simply because it does so many things so well.

I don't cross paths with him nearly enough, but I have always considered Andy a good guy and a good friend. I'm glad to see him doing well and would recommend his knives to anyone.
Hope this helps forum members with Andy Roy and his knives.
