Just curious who eats the tails of their fried shrimp.

I have met a few that do it, and sometimes I dont if I am not in the mood or the shrimp are 'tough'.

To me they are basically like a little french fry and just add a crunch to the shrimp. It does not work for any type except for fried.

Just curious if others do this or if I am just weird. Although most people that I suggest it to and try it like it and eat them now.

So, anyone else out there weird like me?

i'm a fat guy and even i don't eat the tails. so i am not weird like you. however i do eat the skin on my baked potato. later, ahgar

When I was able to eat shrimp (Damn Gout!!!..), I'd eat the whole damn thing, except for the shell. I'd dig the meat out of the tail, but I ate very few tails...Crunchy or not.

Went to red lobster today, they have the all you can eat shrimp. I ate 14 bowls of shrimp scampi and 7 bowls of fried shrimp. But not the tails, I am only 160 lbs and 6 foot. Could have eaten more but everyone was ready to go

I am with you on eating tails......then again...(I can't believe I am about to say this) In the south, crawfish boils are great, and there are 2 types of folks....some just eat the tails and others eat the tails and suck the heads.....I am in the latter catagory.

I guess that is where I get it from. I am a Florida cracker who was taught by his dad. I can't stand it when I see people who bite the shrimp right where the tail starts and waste a 1/4 of the shrimp. I mean at least pinch the tail (shrimp, waitress, or both :)) and get all the meat out if you're not going to eat the whole thing.

As far as the crawdads...I guess we don't get good ones here in florida. When I was a kid I remember eating them and they were great. But I have ordered them in a restaurant a couple times and they just taste old (and funky which seafood shouldn't taste). But I always have sucked the 'head'. Basically its just a little shot of the boil they came out of with a little extra goodness. (ok so how long till W&C?)

I would love to get hold of some live crawdads and have a boil like how you do with blue crabs. Guess I need to go around the bend some.

At least I know I'm not alone. And if you have never eaten a fried shrimp tail....try it!

Shrimp tails are great. Even better are the crispy fins and tails of deep fried whole fish. Those taste kinda like fishy potato chips

Tail is always good. Try whole fried catfish, the fins and tail are great. I am a firm believer in pinching the tail and sucking the head;)

I always eat the shrimp tails. I usually get comments like "we don't even give those to the dog"... :)

I usually eat the tails and fins of fish as long as they are crispy. It works a lot better with freshwater pan fish in my experience. Most saltwater fish are a little too big and the bones just dont get 'crunchy' enough.

There isn't too much I wont eat as long as it tastes good.

Then again I've always said that anything tastes good deep fried...probably even dog s#%&!

I'm hungry again....

I don't eat those battered and deep fried excuses for shrimp. That's an awful thing to do to a perfectly good shrimp. Shrimp should be completely peeled and deveined and either steamed, boiled, sauteed, grilled, or baked. The only condiments necessary are garlic butter or a cocktail sauce with so much horseradish it can double as smelling salts. I'm gettin' hungry...

Suck it up, indomethicin is cheap!!

(sorry, as a fellow gout sufferer, I couldn't resist).

I don't mind the taste, but those little fragments can stick in your mouth like popcorn shells so I usually pass on them.

You must have a good Red Lobster down there. The only time I ever tried the "endless shrimp", the second batch I asked for was half the size of the first one and consisted of the overcooked, greasy dregs from the bottom of the fry basket. It's a good strategy to stop people from eating too many shrimp, but the end result was I never went back! :thumbdn:
