Who EDC's a Regular?

So my new toy will be here in a couple days thanks to a nice member here, a basically like new small Regular from '08. It'll be my first time with a Regular and am eager to get my hands on it to see how it differs from the 21. With them being discontinued, I was wondering who all still EDC's their Regulars or have most moved them to safe queen status?

I found a thread from 2008 right when the 21 was announced where someone who seemed to be an employee said they would be stocking parts for the Regulars and Classics and planned on being able to provide parts for the long haul. I wonder if you strip a screw on a Regular can you still get the one sided hex screws like the original scale screws? I will call them and ask them, but in the meantime, does anyone know if blades are long gone for these also?

I'll keep it around for a few days to make sure she's a keeper and not a catch and release before posting pics. This one will have factory silver hardware with the polished grind/stonewashed flats blade which is supposedly a rare combo on Regulars according to the internet so while I'm a stonewashed blade fan, it'll be a nice change in the collection. Every other knife in my collection other than CRK has a satin blade so I don't see why I should worry too much about scratching it.

I always carry my regulars. Some more than others. To me, they are the finest folder ever designed by Anyone. Doesn't matter to me that they are discontinued and more valuable than say a 21 or 25. I buy them to use and enjoy and thats just what I do. I do admit I have a couple that I do not tote about on a daily basis. But thats strictly because they are pretty rare and only a few were made. But they still get admired and fondled when I get em out. I do have a couple small regulars, but for me its the Large Regular that gets my blood pumping....!

I carry a large Regular and Umnumzaan. :)

As for parts I dare say CRK will still have a few blades and handle slabs but they will be for warranty on worn out or failed parts, they won't sell you parts for Regulars just because you want them. The screws will be what ever they are using at the time you send the knife in, it's not impossible that they would have the old style screws but I don't see why they would need to keep any for older knives as both styles do exactly the same thing. :)

True on the screws. I was just wondering in regards of keeping that classic Regular look. ;) Yes, it seems it's the large Regular that folks really lust after, and I can see why with the cool blade shape. Even though I have a large 21 in my pocket most days, I've found myself lately liking carrying smaller knives more, why I went for the small Regular first. I'm sure I'll find myself lusting after a large soon. :)

Like our buddy Nyefmaker says, the large Regular is probably the best folder of all time. I have a rather hard time finding any arguments to counter that but the Umnumzaan is a knife that is right up there next to it, IMO.

The screws are going to be replaced with the current style if you ask for full hard wear replacement. When it comes to damaged screws it tends to be the head of male part of the set up that people have issue with. The female part is often still perfectly useable so could easily be used with a new style screw. The thread is usually not what people have probelms with and I presume the thread pitch is still the same so there is no reason I can see for you not to be able to mix and match to keep that old school look. :)

I carry a small Reg often and it is my second favorite CRK. There is something very special about the Reg's and they are a joy to have and use.

I have a small Regular and a large Regular UG in my rotation as well as a small Stars and Stripes (which I have not carried so far, but may very soon during a few holidays).
The difference between the small Regular and 21 is not as dramatic as in the large. In the small, blades are fairly alike but they do have the different scales.

I have a couple large regulars that were users when I bought them. They are the knives I carry most. I have 2 more LR that are nib and lnib that I have
a hard time carrying....a website and a plain jane with a swedge and double silver lugs.

I bought the WS and the PJ to use.....I don't plan to sell them. So I have to break down and Use them.

Yes, make sure you carry that Stars and Stripes over the Memorial Day weekend! :)

Just sent my EDC UG Large Reg in for refurb and retirement. For now I'm carrying either a plain, large 21 or Ti-Lock. If I ever find a plain ole large Regular again, I'll snag it for daily use. Best. Sebenza. ever.

I still carry my plain small BG-42 Regular at times, and have a used plain large BG-42 Regular on the way that I'll carry.

I have an 2011 Annual(large) Regular, a year 2000 Pheasant Tail(large) Regular, that I couldn't bring myself to carry, so I started looking for a plain Regular.
I bought an unused large(2004) Regular not long ago, and was going to carry it until I found the used BG-42 model.

I like the Micarta Classics just as much as the plain Regulars, and IMO it and the plain Regular are the best folders ever made. The large micarta handle feels better than any folder I've held. The only thing that could be as good, or better, than those two would be a large Micarta Classic frame with a Regular blade(IMO anyway).

How does the large micarta Classic feel differently than a large micarta 21? I've handled neither and assumed they were basically the same.

They feel the same in hand. Thats why I didn't put the word "classic" in the feels better sentence.

I like the Classic better than the two 21's I did have though. I prefer the lower profile screws/pins, the Classic MM stamp, and the slightly weaker detent.

My large regular Damascus is my go to EDC.... Still my favorite, though this week I'm EDCing the Ti-Lock with a Seb clip. So far I;m warming up to it. Still more of a novelty, but a functional one at that.

I rotate a 21, large reg, umnum , tilock and 25. I enjoy all of CRK's lineup, but unfortunately, the large Reg (for me) is the least fav/comfortable of the bunch. Never liked the scalloped lockbar area, and the others tend to melt in my hand better as opposed to the feel of the reg. It does have the best blade shape though and the annual one piece inlays are iconic:)

When you get tired of that large Reg you can send her my way! ;) it's nice to see so many carrying Regulars.

My first Sebbie was a Lg Regular, and has always been in my EDC rotation. Currently rotates with a couple Sm 21s (Tanto Micarta, & Raindrop SS w/Barry H Scales). That knife has worn many holes in several Levi's & dockers, back pockets. That blade is so perfect, Wish that I had bought one in Damascus but went small.

Mine has the side ribbing on scales, love the finger grooves & everything about it. She was the first CR folder I'd ever handled, bought her new, on the spot. Wife thought I was nuts. What else is new?

Happy cutting & carrying!
