Who else got a butt load of snow and ice last night?

Yup, I slid down a hill, and across two lanes this morning. I missed cars in both lanes by mere feet! I have an Audi with Quattro, and 25 was my max speed this morning. I got outa work early, and all the ice was gone... Replaced by 4 inches of snow (and they cut 17 of our cities plows from the budget this year, gotta love this crappy Michigan economy)!

the worst winter driving conditions I have ever seen was in Flagstaff, AZ. The roads were pure black ice, and the only thing the city did to add traction was sprinkle some cinders around:rolleyes:

Plus, all the locals were trying to drive like it was summer, and would just hold the pedal down at the intersections, spinning their wheels like mad and in the process wiping all the sprinkles off the road. There was 40+ accidents just that one morning.

Here, they use Sand, salt and de-icers all over the place, which will rust your car, but gives good traction. Plus, there seems to be a higher percentage of people here who know how to drive on something other than dry tar.

Of course there are the idiots who crash or roll their 4x4's because they are too stupid to realize that 4 wheel drives don't stop any faster than 2 wheel drives.

How the heck do you burn down your house thawing a pipe? I think if something caught on fire, I would notice and put it out.

No kidding. Don't know how he let that get out of control...here's an excerpt from the newspaper:

A local home caught fire about 7 p.m. Wednesday after the homeowner tried thawing frozen water pipes with a blow torch, Fire Department officials said.

The residents escaped the home, along with three dogs and a new batch of puppies.

The fire crawled up the back side of the house at 3904 S. Anderson St., then rapidly spread through the attic.

Cold temperatures -- it was about 25 degrees at the time of the fire -- added even more danger for firefighters, who had to continually monitor hose lines and pumps for possible freezing.

A sloping driveway at the Anderson Street home turned into an ice field from all the water used to douse the flames, which firefighters kept littered with a gravel-like substance.

The fire began after the blow torch used by the homeowner to thaw pipes ignited the wood siding of the house, said Capt. Mike Harris.

Homeowner Sam Grimes said his wife, Lori, wasn't home when the fire broke out.

"She's at a meeting tonight so she doesn't even know what's happened here tonight," he said.

I woke up with a phone call from work @ 3:45am (I'm engineering manager for a tv station.) Bad news - the 12 hours of sleet packing the ground, compounded with a few inches of snow, was dropping tree branches like crazy and had left 500,000 people without power in St. Louis.

I've been out and about between the transmitter sites and the studio all morning with fluctuating electrical service. I'm actually sitting at my desk now... and checking BF again.

I'm in PA., and it's 70 degrees + BUT... NOT for long. IT is coming. That FRONT LINE has gotta be between here & Pittsburg, BUT I can't complain!!!:D it's rare that I get to enjoy a warm day within 2 weeks of my B-day. Usually it's cold and dark... & occasionally forgotten about, because it's too close to X-mas. :p

I hope I don't lose JUICE/CABLE. LOL Guess I'd better top off the laptop batteries. :D

Jaxx:cool:

Jaxx, I'm in PA as well. The small town of DuBois. Where are you at?
Yeah, this 65+ degree weather has been pretty nice. But then again, deer hunting has sucked so far because of it. It's all gonna change this weekend though!

About 6 inches this morning. Perfect day for sleeping in, I had a vacation day today - wife didn`t - guess who had to get up at 3:30, fire up the 4X4, and take her to work? :grumpy:

John

No snow out here. Just sun and clear blue skies..

Same here in San Francisco 62-64 and clear for the next few days. About the same as summer; but in summer the fog keeps the temps down and of course in winter that expanse of water out west keeps it warmer.

I'm waiting for the first BIG Pacific storm. I like to put on a rain suit and walk along the beaches and look at the Ocean. That is the most POWERFUL thing I ever see. I don't really want to see a Hurricane:eek: .

We have already had a couple of winter storms.. Lot's of tree limbs all over the roads, with power outages and the like.

I can't wait for the next one! I am going out to Horsfall and see what washes ashore. I got a nice small green glass ball last time I was out there..

HELZ YEAH!!!!:D:D:D

We got hammered last night and this morning! Makes things nice and quiet!

I live just a 'bit' south of Jaxx.

Unnaturally warm here today, about 75 max. Front came through with heavy winds but just a tiny bit of rain.

They tell us the temp will drop tonight...way down to maybe the low 50s?

I feel for you, ProGunner, but it looks like Virginny ducked it this time.

WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THIS WEATHER?!?!?!?! It's December 1st, IN MAINE, and it's 40's outside, dumping buckets of rain, and the thunder and lightning is the worst we've seen this year so far!

Lightning stike here at work.
I'm still trying to restore all systems.

Ouch, that sucks Dave. We lost it for a little bit here. Carla was at Walmart when it went down. She was in line and they couldn't get the register systems back up and running and told everyone to go home...LOL

We're getting hammered here in northern Ontario, a mixed batch of sh#t
power has been flickering, I think I have my wife convinced to install a wood stove in the basement , I think she"s getting concerned about what this winter might bring !!!
