Who Else Is Giving Coal For Christmas-Case Coal

I used a mixture of RIT liquid dye Cocoa Brown and Scarlet, I believe a 2:1 ratio.

That's the ending color I'd be looking for! Perfect!

Wow- excellent Thread Josh - you did good, you made that knife extra special for your Dad - as it has a personal touch by you-AND it came out great - well done.
John - again - you did a great job also on your knife - the outcome was superb.

Thanks everyone. I would say they are not as solid black as the "gum fuddy", but they look a ton better than the mottled white and purple (just my opinion). I bought three of these. The one with the most consistent purple is staying purple and going to my brother-in-law. He is a Raven's fan :grumpy: One will go to my Dad and the other, I think I'll keep. The second one intended to be died rested in the die for 48 hours. The benefits were negligible. I've done my best here to capture the color, but I'm a horrible picture man. I even took them outside and could not fully capture, what I can see under my florescent worklight. Where the handles approach the bolsters, the factory die jobs were basically white, to mottled white/purple. I suspect the bone is denser toward the inside of a cow's shin and doesn't take die as readily as the exterior shin bone that has been jigged. The center of the handles, where the jigging is, is truly coal black. Toward the bolsters, it is dark black-grey-purple....sort of. In the house it looks black, under the fluorescent light in the shop, you can see a bit of grey and purple. I really like it though, but it is not "gum fuddy black" from bolster to bolster. Here is the question, which one should I give Pops?

The first knife (24 hour):

Or, the second knife (48 hour):

Here is what I was trying to explain with the color fade toward the bolsters:

Merry Christmas:
