Who grinds more than steel on their surface grinder?

I was wanting to thin out some G11 for folder scales, and I did not want to sit in front of the belt grinder forever and then have to flatten everything. I took a piece of scrap mild steel, couple drops of CA to hold the piece to the steel, and away I went. Worked awesome. Couple taps with the hammer and pieces separate. Next time I need to use the coolant, that dust is such a mess. .375 to .200 in five minutes and perfectly flat.

I do, using a similar trick I learned 30 yrs ago in the Die shop when grinding carbon EDM electrodes. Double sided tape. It works quite well for this application. For apps that it doesn't, I use the super glue trick like you did.
Rather than glue the non-ferrous or synthetic to a plate I go right to the magnet.

Six of one-half dozen of the other ;)

The surface grinder is an amazing tool, and not just for ferrous materials

Good to hear you're getting the max from yours too

Oh BTW, I'll bet my carbon dust was dirtier than your G10 dust ;)

Take a hot tip, nix the coolant. You did right by NOT using it on the G10. It will make a real !mess! of your coolant tank :grumpy:
Another trick is to make a little fixture for your shop vac hose that will place it just behind the wheel. Suck it up as you're grinding
YMMV, I'm just sayin' :)

I completely forgot about the shop vac! I had the fan going to blow it out the garage door but it still settles on everything.

With all of the crazy materials knifemakers mill-drill-grind etc., my shop vac can usually be found running right along with whatever machine I happen to be cranking the handles on :)
My grinder has a dedicated vac system.

Like you said, wood chips/dust, micarta, G10,...... it goes everywhere and "settles on everything". Shop vac helps keep it at a managable level ..... kind of :o ;)
