just curious - anybodyelse think para cord handles on a knife look half @$$ ? i can't stand 'em, i think it looks like the maker got lazy and decided not to put a handle on it. don't really like the way they feel either. i think they feel like they look - the knife has no handle so wrap some crap around the non pointy end.

i realize it works, if you have nothingelse, but i don't see why anybody would actually want it.

am i the only one?

i hate people who cant spell "hate"...its 2 more letters, my fingers really got a workout typing that!!! :foot:

PS. paracord FTW!

Most of the time paracord wraps look like crap, imo.

It's great if a skeletal handle has sharp edges, I see it mostly as a hold over for proper scales.

I've never really had much use for it, but I don't 'hate' it.

I do think it looks cheap and 'faux tactical'. Why not carry a knife with scales and just stick some spare paracord in your pocket if you think you'll need it?

I don't keep spare shoelaces wrapped around my shoes.

I like paracord as a lanyard, a bag strap, a bag strap covering, a book spine liner.

I hate it on knife handles (besides skeletal neckers of course.)

Wrapped around the sheath is another matter.

haha i thought this thread was an expression of hatred for paracord in general, i though "who could be that crazy?!"

most of the time when i see a knife with cord handle i think how much better it would look with proper scales

Yeah but proper scales are usually $50 more. I would prefer them but I can live with cord.

Exactly, but para cord makes a great lanyard, and nice rope for general purpose use.

I think paracord is great for wrapping smaller knives so that they don't take up so much space. Concerning neck knives, paracord compliments the idea of having a slim blade. The grip on a tighly paracord-wrapped handle is way better than with G10 or Micarta, so it depends on what you're gonna use it for. It's not well suited for a big chopper because you'll quickly get blisters, whereas on a smaller, and slimmer blade it can be quite nice.

I think (like many others seem to) that it depends on the knife in question.
I can see the value on neckers and other small blades, where a slim handle is required.
I can also see why you would do it on stuff like throwing knives, where weight may be an issue, and grip comfort is not really a priority (eg the cold steel true flight thrower)

but on larger knives I can only really see the value if you wrapped over annother type of handle, in order to add grip, or add bulk for larger hands.

I don't care for it on knife handles, especially the lime green and neon pink....but it's a great "tool" to have handy on the trail.

While 550 cord wrapped handles are not the sexiest, they are extremely functional. If you notice most of the knives that have wrapped handles are functional fighters or survival knives. I can't emphasize enough how important even that small amount of 550 can help in a survival situation. It's also nice being able to fix or replace the handles in the field. I always have a TON of 550 cord in my rucksack.

Paracord is better than nothing for a handle, so I've used it temporarily on knives until I decide what to rehandle them with.

Otherwise I'm not a fan of it for handles. I absolutely love it on its own, though. I carry as much as I can by wrapping everything with it.

I've always found it gives a very positive grip even when wet/bloody.If it gets bloody like in skinning for example it can be removed, washed and then re-wrapped.I think it's a great option but it shouldn't be the only option a maker gives for their knives.

Paracord is great, useful stuff. I wouldn't use it for a knife handle if I had a choice, but it'd probably work just fine. Some people definitely go a little overboard with it - making all manner of dangly-whatnots and friendship bracelets and junk out of it

I find paracord on a long term use knife handle to be uncomfortable.

Otherwise it is great stuff.
