Who has a "hit and run" cat?

Our family has 3 cats, and 1 dog. The dog is devoted to my wife, and I have one cat that is devoted to me, mostly because we each had them at least 5 years before we married. The others know that we both are their parents.
Anyway, my devoted cat, who is female, is pretty strictly a hit and run cat. When I say that, I mean she'll meow and meow as though I haven't given her attention in days, and then, literally, 5 minutes later, she'll run off. A half hour or hour later, there she is again, pulling the same old abandoned kitty routine. I don't know what up with her, but I know some cats are just like that. It's probably because she just wants to play most of time anyway. Giving her a pet doesn't seem cut it for her, but when we do play, mostly with a fishing rod type toy, she'll stick around much longer. Still, I find owning her a little frustrating because of this, but I've gotten pretty much used to it.
Thanks for hearing my rambling.

WM, I have a cat just like that my wife and I got from (Death Row)the pound.
Anyway he wants attention on his time, and since we had our daughter
it has gotten worse..I find that about 15 mins with the cat-dope and
some well thought-out,and placed scratching--behind the ears--
works like a charm hes good the rest of the night..

I thought that the thread is about roadkill. Btw has anyone noticed that cats will often cross a road at the moment when there is a car driving just several meters in front of the cat. If it's ordinary cat then it's not such problem but I really hate to see a black cat crossing the road in front of me regardless whether I drive or walk. This can bring a bad luck. I would take great satisfaction in driving over a black cat.

I've had a cat or two around most of my life and I'd say they're all hit and run. Cats (even though they sleep a lot) don't have time for non-sense. You are allowed to pet them at certain times and they will let you know when.
My cat Lucy allows a fair amount of quality time, but walks away or will give me a swat when she's had enough. To make up for this seemingly short time together, Lucy makes sure I get in bed on time, sleeps next to me all night, and wakes me on time every day

My cat's always like that-- I'll be on the computer, and the next thing I know she's on my lap. And then she takes off for a while. They like to be independant, but they still recognize their family. Last night my cat ran in and dropped a live mouse on my lap. What a nice suprise! I took the mouse and fed it to one of my snakes and gave my cat a nice treat of turkey slices because she's such a good hunter.

We haven't had outdoor cats for a long time...I forgot what a thrill it is to find a "present" from the cat :D

Some are worse than others. My cat really has a short span of time before she takes off.

My cat was pretty good about "quality time". :D He met me at the door when I got home, gave me time to settle in, cup of coffee, turn on the radio, sit down, then he was up in my lap to get his head scratched.

Then he rolled off, jumped up on "his" bookcase, and went back to sleep.

Blueeyeddevil has been acting trollish for a while but he really lost it tonight, in other threads as well as this one. Sorry about the interruption; please carry on ...

I had a stray that used to hang around my house that I used to feed.
He would hop inside through the open window and eat his chow get
scratched and leave.
Well I made the mistake of leaving my watch next to his food bowl. He hops
inside, eats his food then grabs my watch in his mouth and hops back out of
the window. I couldn't catch him and off went my watch!!!!

I named him thugee after that little incident. :D

It wasn't until I had four cats that I realise that they have characters. They are all completely different and yet the 4 cats are from 2 litters.

Ollie is the king cat and everybody's favourite. He loves to be picked up and gives 'hugs'. He sleeps on the bottom of the bed and wakes my wife up for food between 5.00 and 6.00 in the morning!

Jimmi is 'psycho cat' and lived with my stepson after he left home. He was just crazy and ate like he hadn't eaten for weeks. I never found him affectionate like his brother Ollie. He died of complications brought on by diabetes.

Ceefur Cat is a big bruiser but won't cross Ollie. He is fat like a barrel, and likes his tummy rubbed until he gets your confidence subdued so he can have a nibble and a claw! I think he likes the colour of blood.

Sweetie is Ceefur's brother and is the only female. She was the runt of the litter and was not expected to survive. She is tiny, very affectionate, but won't let anyone pick her up. We think she was held and crushed by a Downs Syndrome lad on the cider farm where we got her. She likes her tummy rubbed though which is like Ocelot fur.

None of them steal watches

Here is a picture of Ollie in his favourite spot at the pub.

My "Lady May-Bug" ( 4 month old black long-hair kitty ) likes to climb my leg, from out of no-where, ( with some VERY sharp claws  ), when it's "time to play" or when she wants some "extra" attention. After she's done playing or figures that I've given her enough attention "for now", she'll run off to find some other mischief to get into.

My first cat was totally devoted to me and stayed close to me whenever I was at home. She was very affectionate but was usually happy to just hang out in whatever room I was in. She's been gone for three years now. :(

My wife and I now have the two cats that she had when we got together. Our big male is much like Andrew's Ceefur Cat. His name is Blixa and he's surly in a loveable way. He adores my wife and acts like a kitten around her, but to me he has become my buddy. He doesn't want much lap time from me, but he always comes when I call him and likes to hang out near me. Frequently he brings me the one toy he likes, while making a strange meow, and drops it near me. He never does this to my wife.

Our other cat is a black cat named Isis. She's kind of like you describe Walking Man, though only to me. She was rescued and raised by my wife and loves her. After 7 years she still isn't sure if I am to be trusted. She'll rub all over my ankles, and meow for attention, but she really doesn't want me to pet her. I can scratch her ears for about 10 seconds, and then she's gone. Some people we know think we only have one cat because she will not come out if other people are in the house. Her water bowl says "Psycho Cat" on it, and it truly fits.

That is his place on the couch in the den (next to my computer desk). No one else is allowed to sit there. If I forget and place something there he will sit next to it looking at me and then at the item until I get the message and remove it. He is very affectionate and always greets me when I come home, unless he is out hunting or doing whatever else cats do outside.

He broke his leg, somehow, about a year ago.

He really loves my wife.

I love cats. My wife and I have two of them and one we brought in as a stray. I used to be a dog person but I now just love all animals. Cats are very loving and amazing.
