Who has a "hit and run" cat?

I think that as a consequence of the hours I work, my two cats are "hit and hit" when they see me. I really can't think of a time when they got tired of petting before I did. Kind of funny, because when I turn out the lights to go to sleep, they know it means no more petting, so they'll go to sleep too. Until 6 AM. Ugh... There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast.

We have three female cats, Gracie, Mildred, and Beatrice and one male, Homer. All of them are fixed. None of them really have much to do with me but they sit around my wife staring at her or climbing all over her. Gracie and Homer do the same to my daughter. All of them come when called by name and look at the other cat if you call it by name. Homer opens doors by turning the knob with his paws and I suspect the others would too if they were strong enough.

My ex fiance's cat weaved in and out of my legs while i was going down the stairs all the time. It was terribly annoying. That cat always had to rub up against me, i think it knew i was allergic to cats and was trying to kill me with allergies since tripping me down the stairs didn't work. Funny thing is, my allergies never bothered me when i was around that cat.

I took in a stray kitten a year ago and he definatly has a personality. After dinner he'll demand to go out for a walk. He usually follows me around the block then disappears for private time. At midnight I go out, start yelling and he comes running home.

My cat loves being scratched while he's home but won't let me touch him when he's outdoors. I find when he does a "hit-and-run" he just wants some interactive playtime. I use a laserpointer and have him run around in circles until he gets tired and go to sleep.

I've always loved cats. My favorite book when I was a kid, which I still actually have, is "Millions of Cats". It keeps saying "millions and billions and trillions of cats..." :)

I used to tame our barn cats when I was a kid. I can't even believe the kind of patience I had for them back then. I'd wait and wait until I could finally get ahold of a kitten and then hold it and talk to it and pet it and love it... they all eventually would come around. Even the adult cats, when I could get them, but they left scars... ouch! :(

I recently posted in another thread that I chose my cat, Simba (I named him after a Sesame Street record!), as a kitten when I was four years old. He lived for nineteen years. He slept with me every single night, on top of my head, and he'd kneed my hair, which hurt, but was somehow comforting at the same time, lol. He also knew the exact time the school bus was due to show up, and he'd be waiting, every day. Swear to God. And he hugged me, not like he would just let me hold him and hug him, but he honestly hugged back! He would wrap his arms around my neck and nuzzle me and make everything feel okay. I miss him a lot. I still have his picture on my fridge.

I also have a pic of my other recently-departed cat, Ouzo, on my fridge. He was awesome... He was an adult when I got him from the shelter, but he chose me, seriously, so I took him home. His pic is right next to Simba's.

Since losing Ouzo I have acquired two new cats from the shelter, whom I both got as "oldish" kittens. Ella (short for "Eleven") was only about three months, but Onyx was about nine months when I got her. Both females and spayed of course. And definitely indoor cats only. I won't declaw them, but I do trim their claws regularly, even though they still manage to scratch stuff up!

Nice to know there are other "cat people" around here. :) (Oh yeah, and please ignore the trolls... ;) )
