Who has a Leatherman PST II?

I have both a Leatherman Juice KF4 and S2. I like the lighter weight of the S2 and I like the scissors, but I miss the file from the KF4. The PST II seems to address all my problems with its light weight, a file and scissors (along with the standard tools.) Is there anything I should know about the PST II before I head over to eBay?

I also think that the PST II has an excellent selection of tools for a 5.0 oz. multi-tool. I really like the diamond file and the large scissors. Keep in mind that the PST II has the old style handles so the pliers will be less ergonomic than those on your Juice. Also, the PST II lacks locking blades but you probably won't mind since your Juice lacks locking blades.

side track: Both of those issues were addressed when Leatherman replaced the PST II with the Pulse so you may want to consider it as well. Also, the Pulse has a plain edge blade whereas the PST II has a combo edge blade. And the Pulse weighs only 1 oz more than the PST II. ...I didn't like the locking mechanism on the Pulse but your opinion may vary. Although the locking mechanism does lock the tools securely, I found it to be a pain to use the lock releases. Also, the lock releases stick out of the handle a little and I found them a bit bothersome when using the internal tools.

Back on track: I don't think the PST II is perfect but it is one of my favorites simply because of its excellent selection of tools and small size. If you do decide to buy one, I'd recommend getting one of the older ones. At some point, Leatherman switched the design of the Phillips driver. The Phillips driver on the newer PST II is not as easily accessible in my opinion.

The PST II is my favorite multi-tool of all time. It is the perfect combination of functions vs weight. Highly recommend getting one.

I have several different multi's,from ultra small to large, but the PST II is the only one that I EDC,got it in May of 96,and it's worn in enough now that I can open it up with one hand now.

I decided to get the Pulse instead. I hope the extra ounce (over the PST II) is worth the more comfortable grip and tool locks.

Thanks for helping with the decision.

I bought mine for <$35 including shipping on eBay -- that model is discontinued but seems to be widely available. Just make sure you choose a seller with a good feedback rating. :)

I paid $15 + $6 for shipping on ebay. $21 for almost any multi-tool is a good deal. The PST II seemed to be going for just a little bit more.

I received the LM Pulse today. I'm not really liking it much. The tool locks are difficult to use. I'd never be able to operate them with cold stiff fingers. The locks also dig into the palm. It'll probably get put in the jeep with all the other things that don't matter if they get stolen.

Scott,

Sorry to hear you don't like your LM. If it's any consolation, the locks on all three of my Pulses were stiff at first* but they loosened up after a few weeks.

*This was also the case with the SuperTool 200 I own, which has the same lock system as the Pulse.

Sounds like you and I share the same opinion on the Pulse. But, I think it would be difficult to find a higher quality multi-tool for the $15 that you paid. I paid a lot more for my WengerGrip and found out that I don't like it. :( You might still think about picking up the PST II. I really like mine but the old-style handles are not a comfortable grip for the pliers and the PST II may also end up in your Jeep! ;)
