Who has left Spyderco to only come back?

In general, how many folks have started with spyderco as their favorite knife company, left to try other stuff and then came back again.? I know I did so briefly. I started this fascination a few years ago and stumbled upon spyderco pretty quickly. A few months back, I was on a ESEE kick for a while, pretty much just ignoring new spyderco models and the forums. Now, for some reason I am back here looking around and following/buying new models. Nothing at all against RAT/ESEE, great products. I just wonder if everyone ends up back at the same place in time??

As far as one-hand openers go, I started with Spyderco in the early 90s, tried out a few Benchmade Griptilians along the way, and have come back to Spyderco. There's just something about an FRN, lockback Spyderco for simplicity and ease of carry. Currently carrying a gray FFG D4.

I have not bought a new Spyderco in the last 15 years or so until this year. I bought 3 Honeybee's in February and a Persistence and a Tenacious in the last 2 weeks.

I lucked out by starting with a Delica 4
Went in search of "the" knife for me.
Just bought a green FFG Delica 4!
I'm naming it Kermit!

I think all knife owners go through this. Sometimes you dont see anything tha catches your eye at the moment, and you buy something else. Seems to run in cycles at times. Spyderco does make some awesome blades though.

Good question. I thought the other day how I had one for the first Glock 17 in town and how at about the same time I started buying Spydercos. I bought many of both in the next 10 years and then started to sell them off to try other things only to come back to Glocks and Spydercos in the last 2 years. I have no regrets for selling what I had. Like a friend of my says "Thats why they make new stuff".

spyderco was what got me into the real deal knives...my friend got a tenacious i was very impressed with it...i bought an endurag10 a few weeks later...since, i tried many many different knives and many brands, got rid of those... my favorite knives to carry are my CF millie and D2 Para

I carried a SS Delica combo edge for years until it was stolen out of my car about 5 years ago. I didn't have the money or desire to replace it (got along fine with a leatherman wave) until recently. now that I'm not so strapped for cash it would appear that I've been bit hard: FFG delica, two enduras (ce/se), and a CF Caly3.

I'd probably be back in a moment, but currently I'm on a traditional kick. Funny thing is that I carry a Native at home a lot. Around here, one hand openers are frowned upon. Doesn't mean I don't carry them, but I don't carry them as often as I would if I were 50 miles south of this nutty joint. Still, I really liked my D'Allara and the Native is a great knife. My wife is using a Copperhead, but still thinks of my Raven as hers.

I'll be back, but not sure how long it will be.

I've always gone for the knife I like, regardless of the maker. The first 'tactical' knife I ever bought was the Police over 20 years ago. Then I bought a lot of Cold Steel, partly because they were a brand I had easy access to, and because I liked [and still do ] many of their designs. I also bought Sogs, more Spydercos, a few ZTs, some CRKTs and in the last few years, a number of Emersons.
For me knife buying has never been a 'progression,' leaving one brand behind and moving on to another supposedly better brand. I like them all, but obviously not every model any one company makes. However there are some brands that are just too expensive as far as I'm concerned and I'm just as happy to give them a miss.

I've been on a traditional kick for a while, but have always liked my Delicas and Native. Nothing too special about them, but they were good, solid, working knives that I knew I could count on. Recently I was thinking about spending more time with locking knives, and was even seriously considering getting a Sebenza. I picked up a could of framelocks (Catbyrd and an A.G. Russell tactical folder) to see if I would like the framelock enough to splurge on the Sebenza. About that time there was a lot of talk about the titanium Military, and I started wondering if that would suit me as well, if not better. I went to a gun and knife show to see if I could handle one. No luck, but I wound up purchasing a Manix 2. I was blown away by the quality. I liked the handle material enough that I picked up a G10 military, then a G10 police. All are awesome knives with top quality workmanship.

I have had a few benchmades and Al Mars - they were puchased before I found bladeforums and fell under the Spyderco spell. I have not purchased another folding knife other that Spyderco since. That being said, I have had a hard time staying away from the custom maker fixed blade forum as well as the custom knife sales forum by individual. Ray Laconico, Tom Krein and Dan Graves are impossible to stay away from - more specifically Ray Laconico. I would hate to add up all the money I have spent on his work the last couple of years as his knives are extremely addictive. Tom Kriens knives are in the same catagory. I love Dan Graves work, but the knives he produces are almost to nice to use - I haven't purchased very much of his work, but always look for his posts as his knives really are works of art. Thankfully, Ray has started producing alot of slipjoints and I don't see as many of his fixed blades on the sales forums, so I am able to slip a little of my disposible income towards Sals wonderful products.

My first good knife was a delica back in the nineties. Since then I have had CRKs, BM's, but the best designs im my mind come from Spyderco, still.

Started with a Dodo for $50. Then all I bought were spydercos, then I added in benchmade and kershaw and bought them all depending on good deals and such. But spydercos are my favorite.

Started with an Endura in the early 90s. Added a Delica, Dragonfly, Ladybug, Native, Renegade and a few others. By 98 or 99, I got rid of the Spydies and went to a mix of knives that included Cold Steel, CRKT, Benchmade and Emerson. This assortment was slowly appropriated by friends and family starting '07 to '09.

In '07, I went with the Crucible Signature set from Blackhawk. Great knives and I still have them but they were getting a little heavy.

In the past weeks, I returned to Spydercos and think I'm sticking to them for a while.

I have not bought a new Spyderco in the last 15 years or so until this year. I bought 3 Honeybee's in February and a Persistence and a Tenacious in the last 2 weeks.

Same here. I have'nt bought a spyderco in several years ,now in the last month I've bought 2 bugs,2 honey bees,a persistence and a tenacious. I love em' all!!

I was a Spydie fan many years ago, then left and mostly purchased BM's. I'm now coming back to Spderco due to their designs and prices. In the last year, I've purchased around a dozen Spydies and only a couple of BM's. My favorites are the Bug, Tenacious/Persistence, Sage, Salt 1. My next purchase will probably be a HoneyBee and a G10 Dragonfly (if I can find one at a decent price).

Started with Benchmade, tried a military and sold all my Benchmades! Now all (99%) of my folding knives besides Opinels & Laguioles are Spyderco's simply because of the deployment method.

I did recently buy a BM Activator though. :P

Haven't "left" spyderco, but did take a break to try out some more BM's and Kershaw....only to sell most of them and know where I am better off ;]
