Saw my second today.

SHSHII. This one with horizontal grooves. $750. Eh.

Scored one for a good bit less (the seller didn't really know what he had) 2 years ago at this same show.

I looked for 5 years to see one. Now they start popping out at me. :)

What gun show goodies have you scored over the years??

In 40 or so years of doing gun shows in the Birmingham area I have run across only three Busses.

The first was in Montgomery at the Alcazar Shrine Temple show. It was an original Custom Shop AD with an enlarged choil. It was about $100 overpriced for the time and I passed on it.

The second was a Straight Handled Steel Heart 1 of 300 a few years ago in Birmingham. The guy had no idea of it's rarity or worth and was thinking around $400. If he had simply asked that price I would have had no qualms at all about buying it. However, he asked me the dreaded question, "what do you think it's worth?" Now I am not going to lie just to get a deal on a knife, so I had to tell him honestly what I thought he could get for it if he joined Blade Forums and offered it for sale. He was shocked. Already having one, I was not about to pay that price for it.

The third was also in Birmingham, a Combat Grade Badger Attack Tac that I had previously sold to the guy who was trying to sell it at a small profit.

I am still looking, though. One of these days....

I saw two MOABs at a Knob Creek show, does that count:-)
I saw a dealer at the NY Custom show in NJ in 2010...

Neither count. LOL

I've seen a couple of Swamp Rats. Always the latest or near-latest design. Always at price or near it.

I did see a rare. . . Schrade? Something MEGA bolo knife. $279. My buddy asked, "Why do you think it's so expensive?"

"Patent infringement. I'm betting they got shut down pretty darned quick and there aren't that many of em."

"????"

"See that little hole there? That's not allowed. They got a nastygram and had to stop making them that way. I guess that one is wickit-rare."

(Honestly, I have no idea why it was priced at $279. The knife didn't look high enough quality to merit the price. But perhaps it was rare and desirable. I saw a lot of rare and desirable guns today. And I'm betting 99.999% of them went home with the dealer. C'mon, guys. Budge a LITTLE bit on those silly prices. Don't tell me a $1,200 gun is $1,500 when you've had it the last 4 shows for $1,500. You can ask for 21 virgins, it don't mean that's what it's worth.)

What is "that little hole there"? The Spydie-hole (patented thumbhole)? Was it a large bolo folder? Any photos? Schrade hasn't impressed me much, aside from some of their more recent high carbon "survival" style knives. Just curious...

I havn't been to a gunshow for a few years and the prices recently were rediculous on guns. I don't know how the dealers expect to make any money.

I never seen any Busse knives at a gunshow/knifeshow before. I always look for them there and at the pawnshops.

Where do you think I got these two?

Talon hole = Busse trademark

Only ones I've ever seen were some new A2 Badgers at a Crossroads of the West show back in the 90's. I recognized the brand from the in case you CAN take it with you adds.

I was still learning the ins and outs of stainless.

I'll pay $267 for a knife that will rust when pigs fly

How many SHSHSII's and SHBM's does he bring with him???? ;)

The SHSHII had that sheath. I assumed it was aftermarket. It definitely had been sharpened.

I remember that $40 and $50 knife. Criminal. Just criminal, I say.

I've seen a Stealth Hawk,

And I've seen an ergo Steel Heart with an asymetrical edge, and Busse kydex sheath.

This guy had three at the reno gun show a few years back. He had 2 batac. One cg and one satin. That was the first time I was able to hold a busse and to admire the satin finish it had. It was for sale for a little more than current value. The guy also had a busse skeleton key. He was trying to tell me it was one of a kind rare pilots model and he wanted $500 for it. I told if it's that rare he better keep it.

Thanks. :) Garth still remembers that day as I ran back to the Busse table to get my $$$. There might have been a bit of urgency in my grab for the Maxpedition bag.

I bet you sprinted back to get your $$...probably knocking over a few people in the process, i would have :D

.

I'm not falling for this old HOG trick, "Tell us where your Honey hole is for finding old Busse knives cheap!" I have found a couple, but not telling where..................................................

.
:D
