in this aspect i consider myself very lucky--in southwest arizona were i live carrying and using knives don't bring the slightest reaction from the people i'm around and in the job i do(maintenance mechanic}i carry my leatherman PST,a 450 park avenue in custom sheath and my CS Gunsite 5" everyday and no one bats a eye
i'm sure i am very lucky it being like this--how about everyone else?? :)

Hey, long time no see! As a truck driver , I'm aware of local rules where I go, but generally carry what I want.

I work in a very knife friendly environment. I have not run into one complaint from any of the other employees or from managers or the owner.

Considering I work construction, I can carry pretty much anything I darn well please. Considering it's also the family business, I can carry anything not prohibited by law. :)

Dad carries a little Case tiny toothpick, while I like a more... beefy... folder. :D AGR Scout, Case 3254, Buck 450, something with some guts.

Blade laws here in Iowa are sane. I work in a hospital environment and frequently go out in the community. No one bats an eye when I take out a knife to cut something. Stockmans and Slim Trappers remind people of their Grand Dad :D.

I can carry what I want but a large sheath knife (like a a-Bar) would draw unwanted attention. My 3 ECD's draw no attention that I am aware of except when I am asked to borrow them :)

I dont have much use for my Calypso at work (Hospital Research Lab) but if I take it out no one seems to mind much.

I used to work where a knife was esential for almost everyone, and we were given them regularly at work.
though I'm no longer able to work (being disabled) a knife is still carried by every coal miner I know.
you're constantly splicing belts, helping splice cable and other jobs.
we were always given plain edge carbon steel knives.

I also live in southern arizona, happen to be a mechanic as well. I carry a spyderco byrd, a balisong, and a leatherman at work. No one cares about them except for the ocassional teasing of the number. And where I work, every single person carries a multi tool. It's pretty much a necessity.

In my job it's not unusual to carry a pocket knife along with your tools. None of our customers have batted an eyelash (and that includes schools and law offices etc.). I often work in a city building with a courthouse that has a metal detector at the entrance. The security guys know me by now and just wave me around the detector. :)

Actually, it was the guys who work for me that got me interested in knives. They all carried Spyderco Endura's and were proud to whip 'em out to slice a bundle of building materials; boxes; tarps; whatever.

It got me interested and that's how I found this Forum and have started collecting knives as my newest obsession. I also upgraded (this oughta piss off the Spydie fans) all of the guys to Benchmade Griptillian's in D2 Steel. I now make it part of the new employee orientation ceremony that when we have our Monthly Safety Meeting Breakfast, the new guy get's his new Grip.

Not wanting to be a sexist pig; the ladies get to pick a gift of their own. One actually asked for the Gerber Gator with Gut Hook. Now that's a heck of a woman!

Have a safe Memorial Day and thank a Vet!

I work in the commercial fishery, where a knife is ESSENTIAL, and could save your life. I carry a Dexter russel 1376 high carbon boning knife for filleting fish, a Spyderco endura, a Dexter russell sani safe great white edge sheath knife on the lobster boat, that baby cuts line like butter, and a Victorinox spartan.

take no chances with lines on the deck. that's my motto.

stay safe

HVAC service and installation...all the supply houses sell knives! So, I carry whatever I need to get the job done. No one has ever complained, but I still like to be relatively inconspicuous about my knife usage in front of customers. No reason to unnecessarily scare them.

I really feel sorry for the guys who can't carry at work or work in areas where the sheeple bah to loud. I can honestly say, I love living and working in Texas, where a knife won't get you harrassed much. In fact sometimes, it's the reason people leave you alone!

I'm a paramedic in Canada, and I carry pretty much whatever I like. Sometimes, we transport psych patients, so often I carry things that I can easily drop into my pocket to reduce the chance of a 'grab and stab'. I carry a small fixed blade, a folder, a multi and a SAK most days. Several other of my co-workers are knifeknuts; last night we had a bit of a 'show and tell' between calls. When I'm not working, there are basically no limits whatsoever. Canada's not so bad for knife knuts...

my works great, i used to be a mechanic but now im in parts. ive edc'ed kabars, bms (770, 806d2, 630 skirmish), and a few other odd balls like the spyderco cricket that my fiance loves.

she carrys a spyderco cricket, sak, camilus camp knife, and a kerkshaw rainbow chive.

I live and work in Texas. No problem with knives. I sometimes carry a gun to work.

Since i moved, most of the people i've met carry knives. For the most part they're all cheap folders and with the price tags on mine...they're perfectly happy with what they have. No one minds me openly carrying and using my knives. One guy i met has a rather large fixed blade, kinda made me want to get a Ka-Bar...mmm Ka-Bar... :)

I work as an instrument mechanic for a large chemical company and years ago we were issued Buck 110's.

About a year ago we were told that for safety reasons we were going to be issued box cutters with automaticaly retracting blades (bummer.) Safety is a VERY big issue where I work.

However many of us still carry the Bucks and no one has complained as of yet.

I work at a pizza place so I'm always using kitchen knives... I actually picked up a Frost's of Sweden knife because they were using cheap Chinese crap and I just couldn't handle it anymore... I also carry a good folding knife... Most often a BM 705 D2 for opening boxes and various packages.

As Numberthree said, "Canada's not so bad for knife knuts."
