Who has the pleasure of living and working in a knife friendly environment??

I install hardwood flooring and carry, use a MT LCC every day. Never had a negative comment.

lot of great responses--glad to see so many have it nice like me--this is way it should be  :)

I work as a Maintenance Manager in Toronto Canada and usually carry a Camillus EDC or a Benchmade Griptillian 551 to work. Most people there know I carry a knife and usually ask when they need something cut. Most of my day is spent in an office environment and no one has ever been surprised or startled by the knives. I think most people still see them as tools. I do have some however that would get a different response if worn at work but that doesn't do much to help our situation.

My job is computer-related, but I also do a LOT of printing. That means I cut the flaps off of boxes, cut plastic, and sometimes break boxes down. A blade is required to do my job.

We (typically me and one other person) usually have a box cutter around, but the blade is often quite dull and I don't even know where the replacements are kept. That and it isn't really suited for cutting heavy plastic stuff. So I carry a knife all the time.

Once I pulled out a Gerber EZ Out Jr. If you aren't familiar with this knife, the blade is only 2 1/4". This was in front of my boss and he says "isn't that kind of big"? I thought he was joking but I looked at his face and I think he was dead serious. Nonetheless I actually carry bigger knives now and there isn't any way I'm going to get fired for simply carrying a knife. My boss definitely doesn't arbitrarily fire people.

So basically I can and do carry a knife but I am judicious about who I use it in front of.

Unfortunately, no.
My coworkers don't mind, but the customers are a different story.
Freaking California...

I thought California was "the greatest place in the world..." ;)

But, seriously, I enjoyed some of my time there(spent 15 years there or so), but got tired of the desert(~10" year rainfall), concrete, smog, cars/traffic, laws, taxes, high costs of living, and eventually - people. I'm sure Cali was a nice place at one time, just not during my time.

God bless Texas!

EVERYBODY at work has at least one knife at their desk.

Some of my coworkers stop into my office several times a week to see what I have that is new or interesting or to ask knife questions(they are newbies)

I have to keep my sword bag in my bosses office when I bring it to work, though. I guess they are concerned that if I went ballistic I would have an unfair advantage. :)

Best Regards,

I'm an electrician and everybody carries a knife. I started in 1980 I was working with a old timer. He told me to skin the cables that we were setting up to pull in the conduit. I whipped out my razor knife and he said, whats that? Get rid of that #%* thing and go get yourself a real knife.

No problem with knives in Oklahoma. Honestly, it seems to be an act of chivalry if you help a lady cut or open something with your pocket knife. But, you can't do this too much anymore since all the ladies are getting knives of their own. :D

in this aspect i consider myself very lucky--in southwest arizona were i live carrying and using knives don't bring the slightest reaction from the people i'm around and in the job i do(maintenance mechanic}i carry my leatherman PST,a 450 park avenue in custom sheath and my CS Gunsite 5" everyday and no one bats a eye
i'm sure i am very lucky it being like this--how about everyone else?? :)

Yit, like you I've always been lucky as far as work and knives went, having been a mechanic/fabricator/millwright/machinist/pipefitter all my life, well for at least 28 years I always had knives at work and no one ever blinked an eye.

Even when I worked in the courthouse, everyday I'd walk right past the metal detectors knowing full well my pockets were loaded with sharp, pointy pieces of metal. :D

LPG Transport driver here.....generally carry whatever I want here in Texas, as long as the blade isn't over 5.5". :D

Another perk is that my company doesn't have any rules/regs about knives. The only restrictions in place have to do with firearms. :grumpy:

I live in a fairly knife friendly environment here in the American South and have never had any problem with the law or anyone outside of work doing or saying much of anything about whatever I want to carry knife-wise. I do not usually carry fixed blades because I live in a family-oriented town but more importantly because I have little need for a large knife. I used to carry a 14" machete around town sometimes when I was a teen and doing more exploring in the woods. I had police pass me as I was walking down the road and never even look.

At work, I have carried all kinds of tactical and traditional knives. My usual carry in my last job was either a CS medium Trailguide drop point or a Kissing Cranes Large Sodbuster. Many of my former co-workers liked knives but few carried anything other than the lame Asian made boxcutters which we were issued. I carried one of those for a while but the locks always broke and the break-off blade sections always scared me from using them. Now, I carry an SAK Pioneer Farmer everyday and either a traditional or Spyderco/Benchmade sometimes also. No problems so far.

California is so freaking diverse, I can't understand getting tired of it. If you're tired of beaches, we've got mountains.
But note that I never say "California" is the greatest place in the world, but rather "Santa Cruz." I may get an idiot from time to time telling me I'm dangerous because I carry. But I can still carry. And nobody is going to be stopping that!

Pulled out my Twitch I to open up an envelope (pay day) and one of my co-workers told me that this knife was the most scary knife she ever seen.

Then again, I am in NJ :(

About a year ago we were told that for safety reasons we were going to be issued box cutters with automaticaly retracting blades (bummer.) Safety is a VERY big issue where I work.

I worked at a pharmaceutical warehouse 'round these parts when the corporate monkeys figured it'd be a great idea to switch from standard boxcutters to the self-retracting "safety" versions. Injuries went up dramatically. Workers were forced to hold the cutters in one particular grip in order to keep the blade extended, regardless of the task. All the awkward positions they had to contort into to make simple cuts meant that they were using too much force in uncontrolled ways, and they ended up getting cut.

Not that corporate cared much, of course. The PowerPoint presentation said it was for safety! Who doesn't like safety?

...

These days I'm working in an office environment, and I carry my Spyderco Meerkat most days. It'll be my Kiwi once I get the pocket sheath for it. So far, no trouble, but I'm sure at least a few people'd complain if it was common knowledge. During my employee orientation, the presenter covered the "no weapons" policy. The policy is "no weapons". And, evidently, no definitions. The deadliest example of a weapon he could think of? A hunting knife. "This is a knife designed for gutting deer, people..."

There are things I love about my state. But the weapon laws and hoplophobia here might make me move out yet.

I get the same thing when I pull out my Atlantic Salt. I'll grant that the serrations look wicked, but the blunt tip of the rescue profile makes me roll my eyes.

My office manager stopped me when I came in this morning and said, do you have a knife du jour? I need to open this box. (He knows I'm a knife nut)

I was a little embarassed because I just have an old stockman that I found in a tackle box and haven't cleaned up or sharpened yet!

I also work in the computer industry, as a Systems Administrator. That means that while I spend most of my time sitting at a computer, I also have to deal with opening boxes, cutting and stripping cables, opening computer cases and racks, etc. They're not *unfriendly* regarding knives here, although the company does have a "no weapon" policy (where weapon is left undefined). Everyone in my department carries at least a small pocket knife, as you could barely make it thorugh the day without at least that.

As for me. . . I carry a bit more than that. ;-)

My Every Day Carry set consists of: Leatherman PSTII and Anza TW (4" overall, 1 5/8" fixed blade) on my belt; a Leatherman Micra, a small Schrade Simon, and a Swiss+Tech Utili-Key on my keychain; and a Spyderco Calypso Jr. clipped to my pocket with a Gerber LST (2 3/4" blade) in that pocket.

I sometimes get teased or take some flack at work for carrying all that, and in fact, the other day the VP of Operations asked me if I was violating company policy for carrying a weapon. I simply responded that I wasn't carrying any weapons, just tools. He didn't say anything else about it, and no one has told I couldn't carry them.

Also, and this always amuses me. . . even though people give me crap for carrying lots of tools and such, they also run straight to me when they need a knife, or a screwdriver, or pliers, or whatever. The jokes tend to stop pretty quick at that point.
