Who have you taken classes with?

I was lucky enough to spend my free time for about 5 months over at Ken Onion's shop on Oahu. He helped me immensely, I've been trying to pay it forward ever since.

I've been meaning to go to Brazil and take a class with Rodrigo Sfreddo, it's still in the cards but next year maybe when I have the travel funds. I have a lot of questions for him...

Not actually a class, but I am fortunate enough to live pretty close to John Loyd.
I was able to hang out with him in his shop a few hours.
I applied what info he gave me from peening to some tricks of the trade of knife making.

I feel I gained tremendous leaps in my knife making since than.
I still on occasions talk to him about knife making.
I feel he's a all around mentor to me.

I agree. John is such a great guy and is always willing to help me out or answer my questions.
When I first started out he offered to heat treat my first knife and hasn't stopped being generous with his time and knowledge.
I will always feel indebted to him.

My daughter and I spent a weekend with Lorelei Sims and she helped me apply the basics to forging a knife although I still haven't forged one to completion yet.
I also sat in on a couple of sessions at a conference with Elsa Fantino and Fred Perrin.

BTW, Taximanny, where are you located near STL?

Ed Caffrey for a 5 day basic class. Also, I met Bruce Bingenheimer at a hammer in and had the good fortune to get to take a trip and spend a weekend with him in his shop a while after. As has been said, one on one time with a really good maker is just about priceless when it comes to better understanding how to do things. I keep threatening Bing that I'm going to save up some money and make him give me a liner lock class... :).
