My nephew who I buy a knife for his birthdays and Christmas has amassed a nice collection. Now he is 18 and I can see him really focusing on all the different aspects of his knives. When we get together to sharpen he is understanding how different steels act. He is developing his own taste and style.

My grandson always ask me to show him what knives I have on me. I will also (when he is a little older) start buying him knives.

Who have you started down the path of knife appreciation?

My journey started with my Dad at my first Gun and Knife show when I was 5. I was amazed at all the different types of blade designs, etc. I could have stayed for hours. Dad bought me my first knife, a cheap Chinese hollow handle survival knife that day.

My two closest friends both have the disease, though not to the degree I do. One started, and still largely is, a knife user much more than accumulator or collector. He, despite being a couple years younger than I, was my FMA instructor and has since joined the navy. He rotates through an S30V Leek, Benchmade Mini Morpho, Spyderco Superleaf and a Cold Steel Talwar that I just sold him (tried to make it a gift, but he insisted on paying).

The second is a librarian by day, jazz bassist by night and adjunct college professor in the middle hours. He has the bug worse than my Navy buddy but also, despite his three jobs, less means to support it. He goes between a Cold Steel AK-47, Kershaw Skyline and, the majority of the time, a Spyderco Endura 4. Most of his knife funds are spent culinarily after I introduced him to Tojiro's DP line.

Oh, and I would be remiss if I left out my fiancée. Her go to blades are a Cold Steel Ti-Lite and an Izula 2 that lives either around her neck or hanging from the rear view mirror of her car. She WAS teasing for a pink Native 5, but I since showed her thr pink Rat 1 with the black blade and I think I may have saved myself $60.

I have a couple cousins that rekindled their love of knives through me. But outside forums such as these, it is hard to find knife companionship. The subject is borderline taboo with most people or they will just have none of it.

All my electrical apprentices I've had in the trade over the last 40years.As one of the most important tool they will have on the job:D

Ive never got anyone into knives as a hobby but I did get my brother to appreciate a good knife. My brother usually would buy my sloppy seconds. But when his benchmade emerson from the mid 90's failed him (sold it to him in mint condition and when he was done with it the entire tanto tip to the primary edge was gone) he sprung for a microtech ultratech II and has carried it for a decade and loves it. He has not managed to break it. And oddly enough that 154cm blade holds and edge forever and he uses it hard.

I was cleaning a few knives recently when a friend stopped in that had been away for work for quite some time. He started fondling them and expressed his interest in getting one for himself... showed up at my door again the next day with his new Spyderco Tenacious happy as can be. I showed him a ZT assisted opener and his eyes lit up so now he wants one of those too, also keeps sending me pictures of Benchmade knives he wants haha. I expect we will have a new member on here soon.

Got a bunch of HVAC helpers carrying......after they saw how many times a blade will be used daily. Decent multi tool and a good blade will save MANY trips back to the truck for tools!!
The 2 that have really had their eyes opened are my 2 older boys......not sure they really count cause they usually 'borrow' one of dad's!!! And I'm thrilled they do!
One is a financial wizard working for Bank of America.....he 'borrowed' my Sage 3 and my 530.....both office friendly and he loves them!!
The other is in Local 1 in NYC doing elevator and escalator installs and maintenance. He 'borrowed' a Manix LW and a Grip. Can they be called knife knut converts?? Prob not, they never bought one, but they both carry every day and will let me know how many times they used them throughout the day.
Cool beans when your kids like the stuff you do.....makes that stuff so much better!

My Mom got me into knives when I was a little girl; 7-8 years old. She used to take me camping & fishing, and taught me the importance of having a good knife. I have been hooked ever since. What has been fun for me, is gifting my Mom some nice knives over the years!!She is a lefty though, and I find things that she can open left handed.

I turned my mom on to knives. First it was the Spyderco Ladybug, then the Dragonfly, then the Delica (all at her request.) She actually uses them quite a bit, and carries them often. The best is when she's in a group predominantly composed of men, someone asks for a knife, no one has one, and mom whips out her blade. :)

I'm keeping everything until I die. Then my son gets the stuff. Really don't care past that point. lol

Both my sons, received my first from my dad at 3 yrs old and did the same for my two. They r really into pocket knives.

My last sponsor. Now he's a knife-aholic too.

I honestly believe that the love for knives is hardwired into the psyche in every living male on the planet. All that needs to happen, is for us to listen for the call that comes from within. I believe that love for knives is a human genetic condition.

My roommate and a few friends carry knives because of my influence. I didn't even gift them anything, they went out on their own and bought knives. One even discovered Spyderco by himself and came over one day smiling ear to ear about his new endura.

Co-workers and a few friends. It's neat seeing people with their first knife. No one so far has caught the bug, but more apples are being sliced up around the office.

My 5y/o nephew got the wooden spyderco, and we made him some wooden fixed blades. Two weekends ago he got to whittle with a B&T(Redsquid2) from the forums. The kid is hooked for sure.

Also, have an AgorEDC (Jamall)from the custom section coming for my boss. Brownie points?

Oh, I've turned quite a few other people onto higher quality kitchen cutlery as well. Not sure it counts, but I've had more than one friend/family member tell me they had two kinds of knives in their kitchens. Stuff I gave them and crap.
