Who here collects knives, and who uses them?

I use 'em all. The qualities of knives that I appreciate the most is their simplicity and usefulness. If it's made to be used, I'll buy it and use it.

I accumulate knives as a by-product of my enthusiasm for them.

I play with them, admire them, and use them. Not because I like having them, the posession of the item, but because I desire to pierce the mysteries of form and function.

As a function of that interest, I find that periodically I purge my accumulation, selling or giving away all the knives that no longer have a purpose for me.

Some of the knives that I own, I suspect, may never fall out of favor, for they are nigh unto perfect.

I have an extensive collection of Custom Autos that I do not use.I also collect Case knives and there are some of them that I will not carry. Some of them I do.I guess I am a Collector:eek:

When I get a new knife that was expensive, (several hundred dollars or more) I put it up for a while because I want to keep it looking new. Then reality hits me and I tell myself I'm crazy to not carry a knife that I paid so much money for, then I carry it for a while until I get another one that I think will be the perfect EDC.

I've got some, production and custom, that will most likely never see use. Others that are carried and used. My most expensive knife see my pocket every weekend, sometimes more, and has cut things from steak to zip-ties.

They are tools after all.

Seems like a lot of us have gotten to this stage...

I have more than I need.

While I would use them all, some actually get used much more than others. Some hardly at all.

The high-quality hardly-used group are all keepers. For now.

The lower quality hardly-used group (hardly used because they <i>are</i> lower quality), get given away or sold, usually the former.

I use some, and just admire others. My last three custom knives were purchased specifically for daily carry and use. I don't have many custom folders, so those that I have are all frequently carried. I guess I collect the custom fixed blades because I can't carry one everyday. I use some of them from time to time, but I have so many it's hard to give them all a proper workout. :)

Para, user and collector

I collect most of my knives never to use just to play with i have a Custom Elishewitz i never use it is to pretty :) but i use the hell out of my Tom Mayo TNT and it cost me a lot more I also have a LG Sebenza that will cut my finger off if i don,t stop playing with it while i'm drinking... or is that the goal of this whole knife collecting thing ??? well anyway i just got a dalton from a close friend just the sight of the blade comming is enough to cut something and thats cool cause it will never get scratched right ???

ya so i am just practicing for !!!! New Years Night !!!

Gotta love those Bud's

I don't collect, I use them. However, as new stuff comes out, that is better and more useful, I pick it up and therefore accumulate knives. For example I've got a Remington, Dexter Russel, and a 440A custom fillet knife, all accumlated over time in an attempt to find a good one. Recently I purchased a Phil Wilson custom job in CPM 420V, with desert iron wood scales. It's the best fillet knife I've ever seen. It cuts like a razor, and is light weight, beautifully curved making it the perfect filleting tool. So, now I've got 4 fillet knives, even though it didn't set out to collect anything. For folders I've got a Wegner jr. and a MT Socome Elite, M/T. I carry the small one for dress and the MT for every day. I use the hell out of both. I guess that makes me an accumulator, rather than a collector. I can't imagine purchasing a knife that I am not prepared to use.

Well aside from a Timberline Aviator Proto, and a Case Limted Edition all the knives that are actually mine are users, even my custom cqc-7.

SOme I wont use as hard as others, but still all users.
