Liong, make sure you stop at RJ Martin's table and get a BF name tag. Your buddy in Malaysia speaks highly of you, want to meet you.I won't be hard to spot-I'll be the guy walking around with a PhilL under his arm

Ok, let's cut out all the asskicking talk. I happen to enjoy PhilL's posts.
Les-are those prices firm on your knives??

I plan to be there Fri. at 12:00 and Sun. at 10:00 (I'm a Sabbath observer, so can't be there Sat., or I would). It would be nice to meet all you Bladeforum guys (and you too Donna). Did you say Martin is giving out some type of nametag? I'm easy to spot. I'm tall, with a short beard and I wear a yarmulka (skull cap). Only a few of us there. Please say hi!

I am thinking about going also. I am very easy to spot. Not only will I be the shortest person there(5' 2 1/2") but I will also be the only adult there that looks like a 16 year old

I have been blessed with my parents' look of eternal youth.

How can we recognize Rj Martin's table to get a nametag?( I have never seen what Mr. Martin looks like)

Each table has the maker's name on it. Also, outside the show there is a map that lists where any maker is located.

Howdy all-
I'll be there at the opening bell again- taking a comp day for mental health reasons. I need to go to knife shows.
This year I may just be kicking tires- ever since "The Mizzuz" decided to go back to college, the knife budget has gotten thin.
Hey Les- come crash on my sofa in Queens- Much Cheaper & you can pass along the savings

see you all there-

Never having been, can I ask a question ?

Is this show all damascus and diamond encrusted art pieces and $300+ customs, or are there dealers selling real knives for real folks ?

No that I don't find the customs & art interesting to look at and appreciate, but my tastes (and wallet) tend more to the everyday 'put it in my pocket to cut stuff' knives. Is this show out of my league ?

RH, you will find knives from $49 production knives to $15,000 art knives and everywhere in between.
Ron Gaston,Russ Easler,LDC,RW Wilson,Cannady,DDR,and on and on. Also Skylands cutlery(production) was there last year. Knives for every taste and price.

What happened to 10th Ave?? Rugger, how do you know?

Kidding aside, The show will have some dealers aside from makers. But some of the makers already mentioned will have some nice pieces at reasonable prices. Bob and Linda Dozier comes to mind. Present will be some purveyors as well. They have a bit of mix, new and used. All in all, always a nice experience.

I haven't been since they moved from the Roosevelt. Went 6 or 7 years in a row. Disco Stu, I used to do the train for the day thing. It worked out real well. Is the Sheraton walking distance from Penn Station? It was a bit of a hike but after the first year with a Kamakaze cab driver I used to walk to the Roosevelt from Penn Station.

The Sheraton is walkable from Penn- but hop on a subway for a couple of blocks- it's faster & will save you some hassle- especially if the weather is bad. I think the "E" stops right there on 7th & about 52nd or so.
Nakano- That was a mean thing to say

Actually, I have a friend who is a Transit cop & he has told me some wild tales...
Catch you there- (Bringing Tuff Cloths again this year?)
Cheers,
Mike

Rugger, Thanks for the offer, but Ive got a room already.

RH, Just out of curiosity, if real people buy factory knives, what kind of people do you consider those who buy custom knives?

Answer carefully, as Dave will be around to deal with you after he has dispatched PhiL.

Oh PhiL, there are no flies on me. As flies cannot land on something that is in constant motion!

People that aren't college students! That's who can afford to buy customs! Last year was so tempting, I'll have to admit. For the under-funded, we have to stick with the production knives.

Is the show that much better on friday as compared to saturday? I wanted to go on saturday, but maybe I'll have to make it on friday if it's going to be that much better. Last year, I went on sunday. Maybe that's why I didn't end up buying anything. Ooohhh...I hope I can resist temptation for another year. Must be strong, can't spend all my money.
