Who is Herman Williams?

Perhaps you are thinking of Herman Williams? He was well known for customizing Schrade knives.

If I remember, Herman Williams had an official position with Schrade! A talented cutler, I think he cared for the official Schrade Factory collection, among other things.
Later, out on his own he customized average Schrade knives into special pieces. One of his favorite additions was rehandling knives in nice, red-dyed stag!!

All of his stuff seemed to be enhanced Factory pieces!!

I believe he was in charge of Schrade's repair shop until the end. He did a lot of customization afterwards and owned Schrade's jigging machines. I was never able to get him at the right time. He had cut his finger pretty bad the last time I talked to him and wouldn't take any more work.

Herman was an amazing craftsman and an equally amazing person. Charlie most all of the old folders in the factory collection belonged to Herman. The knives were on loan to the factory and when the shutdown occurred they were all auctioned off before he was aware of what was happening. That really hurt him. Here's one of his amazing Schrade daddy barlow transformations.

I don't know if it is true, but I heard that he felt that the jigging machinery was so dangerous to use that he planned on destroying it before he died so no one would get hurt. That would be just like the wonderful kind man that he was/is.
